Thinking of upgrading my sleeping arrangements for next year. Is a 10cm SIM significantly more comfy than a 7.5cm?

I'm planning a couple of week long camping trips next summer so I'm wanting to upgrade my sleeping arrangements to get a comfy nights sleep. At the moment I have a vango 7.5cm SIM, which is fine for a couple of nights, but I've been thinking of getting a camp bed and putting the SIM on top.
However I'm wondering, if I'm splashing out on a camp bed, do I go the whole hog and treat myself to an outwell dreamcatcher 10cm SIM as well - will it be any more noticeably comfy than my vango one though?

Also does anyone have any recommendations for slightly, wider single sleeping bags. I have a mummy bag and a vango bag that is 78cm wide but I hate feeling so constricted and end up waking up in a panic trying to find the zip to free myself!!!
Specifically, I've been looking at the outwell camper and colibri sleeping bags - are they any good?
Thanks

The Decathlon inflatable camp bed / bed base thing gets an excellent write up for comfort under a SIM.

I have a Vango Aurora Grande single sleeping bag that is 1m wide. I like it because the lining is all cotton. It is v warm (too warm for me in summer, but judging by others on this board I don’t feel the cold) .

The vango sleeping bag looks like the sort of thing I'm looking for. It might be a bit warm for me though, I don't feel the cold much either!!

We have a Vango 10cm SIM. it is unbelievably bulky but is gorgeous to sleep on. We use the Decathlon inflatable camp bed base, use a fitted sheet and normal duvet, and it's honestly as comfy as a normal bedSmile

I agree the Decathlon inflatable camp bed is a game changer!

I use it with a 10cm SIM and it's so comfy.

Ooh! That inflatable camp bed base looks very interesting, I've never seen one of those before. It looks like it won't be as heavy/bulky as a metal and canvas frame camp bed either.

For the last two years we've camped on an Outwell Dreamboat 10cm. It's brilliant - really comfortable. The oly problem tends to be if we overinflate it and it's too hard, otherwise it's great.

I have the outwell dreamcatcher 10cm and it's brilliant. I find it just as comfortable as my bed at home. We camp for two weeks at a time in the summer and I'm very happy on my SIM.

I can't sleep in mummy style bags so I have a square sleeping bag. It is huge though and takes up loads of space in the car.

another one saying outwell dream catcher....both DH and I swapped cheap 10cm SIMs for these this summer, and they are much better...so easy to roll up too....

the other thing that has made a massive difference to my sleeping is having a bigger pillow. I got a thermarest, but DH just takes ordinary pillows (we camp with a van) so that's something else to consider

KnotsInMay · 17/09/2018 22:59

I always take 2 down pillows.

Campbed plys duvalay foam topper is very snuggly. Buy the fitted sheet for the mattress topper. Snore!

Nannyr
The camp bed bases come in single sections which clip together, each one is probably the size of a small folding umbrella chair. They definitely take up a lot less space than camp beds.

I am thinking about getting a SIM and from this thread I have determined a 10cm one is the way to go.

Now, should we get two singles and push them together or buy a double?

What make of SIM is recommended? If it makes a difference my husband is tall and I am fat. What a lovely combination!
