Idiots guide to camping holiday?

DH and I are still undecided as to whether we will go camping or a short break in Turkey. We have DC aged 18mths and almost 4 months.
I'm trying to work out how much the camping trip will cost on average. So far, we have a tent and a link to the UK camp website
I'd like to go somewhere that's quite remote but that has lots of wildlife for DS1 to see.
Help...

In my expeience of camping, which doesn't include my own dc(but includes friends DCs), as taking dd (2) camping for the first time in a few weeks, the weather will make alot of difference to the cost. Good weather and you can be outside all day, bad weather and you end up paying for inside entertainment, shopping etc and take aways instead of cooking al fresco! Campsites seem to vary from about £10 - £20 per night depending on the facilities that they've got, but if you want a quieter one with wildlife it'll probably be cheaper. I always look for David Bellamy award sites too, they're sites who have got awards (bronze, silver or gold) for doing their bit for the environment, e.g. for nature and wildlife, recycling, energy efficiency etc. Places I've been that are good for wildlife, wales, lake district, yorkshire dales, cornwall, devon etc, all have some remote sites and great for seeing wildlife, seen birds, incl. owls, grouse, flycatchers, bats, badgers, deer etc all camping, lovely on a peaceful site in the evening. Do you know where in the UK you might go? I'd also try and book somewhere fairly soon as sites are booking up for the summer already, especially the school holidays.

This one's got a bit of everything - it's a David Bellamy nature one but with lots of amenities onsite for first timers plus the whole of the New Forest to explore. Selling point to my DH was the takeaway beer cartons from the pub!
If you can go before mid-July in July you will save loads and it will be fairly quiet. It also has a cost calculator .
