We’ve just come back from our week away camping and loved it as usual! We try to upgrade or buy a few new bits each year and are currently trying to decide what to get at the end of the camping season when things should be cheaper.

So tell me all about your favourite camping luxuries! I want some good ones, tried and tested! Thanks.

Our CADAC gas bbq. It is so good we use it at home as well. From burgers, to paella even an english breakfast. Check it out!

Pegs using guy ropes as drying lines, memory foam mattress topper on air bed, fitted sheet and duvets much warmer than sleeping bags.

This thread is putting me off camping. Fine as a child when someone else is organising but I could not manage this degree of organisation in my adult holiday!

Hestia this is our kitchen unit but I don't think it's available any more and the newer models don't look as good to me!

Georgie I only take a duvet to France as i find it better in hot weather. Cotton wins over nylon! I have a great pod sleeping bag but just not keen on the feel of it.

Collapsible water carrier here too. We love it 😀

Hillbilly I so wanted that water carrier but got the Kampa Keg instead as it was cheaper! It’s pretty good. Definitely recommend a container with a good tap on it.

We have one of those campfire grills - it’s great Grin

We bought this for our fortnight camping trip this summer. It was so nice not having to root around in bags for clothes and not have them strewn all over the tent. The pockets on the sides were really useful too.

I have a plastic cafetiere (that my fellow Cub Scout leaders now beg me to bring every year!!) for proper coffee. We can manage on instant most of the day, but a first cup being a "proper" cup makes all the difference!

I got a better chair in the end of season sales last summer - nothing terribly fancy but higher back and slightly more comfortable seat than the basic version (the pin at the front X was bent so it wasn't going to last another trip realistically). DD is eyeing it up though to take on Scout camps (she is getting a new basic chair once hers dies, as I have seen how Scouts treat their kit!).

On my list to acquire are a fire pit and a tripod to hang over it - to use as a BBQ, wood stove and fire pit combined. And maybe even a dutch oven.

My old Girl Guide leader had a water barrel that you rolled along - I've seen those in shops and want one eventually (I have a 10l one in the meantime, and can borrow 20l ones from Scouts - but it would be easier to roll it along than have to carry them). And I want an IcyTek or similar at some stage - I have a cloth sided cool bag, and ice blocks, which works ok as long as the weather is not too hot (which is most of the time here in Ireland!) and we are not on too long a trip (usually no more than 3 days).

Diva lay sleeping bags are great. Memory foam base and full size small single duvet effect top. They are only sewn down one side so you don't get that restricted feeling you get in a traditional sleeping bag

grannycake · 28/08/2018 17:45

That should say duvalay not diva lay but I'm sure diva's would love them

Looking for Hillbilly's Collapz water container, I have discovered Sticky Lids - I need those!

My favourite camping kit has already been listed by others: Insulated steel (unbreakable) cafitiere, Icey Tek, Campfire Grill, Dutch Oven.

I also love my Pie Iron, Go Anywhere Weber Barbecue, Obelink Canvas Tarp, Vango Aurora Grande cotton lined sleeping bag, for colder weather (it is very warm. Mani advantage: cotton lining and 1m wide ).

Aeropress for proper coffee (not a luxury, an essential imo)
Dutch oven and tripod
This year’s investment was a rocket stove similar to this one as I hate using gas cylinders. It boils a kettle quicker than a gas stove, you can toast marshmallows on it properly, and you can stoke it up enough to huddle around if you’re on a site that doesn’t allow open fires:
