We always took a big tub of Bolognese and some crusty bread for the first night then just boiled the spagetti once we were set up. On the second night we baked potatoes on the fire and had it with corned beef and beans mixed together followed by bananas, skin on sliced down the length then stuffed with rolos, wrap in tinfoil and bake on the fire...lush.

I wouldn't be taking water. Isn't there a tap where you're going? Then again, I suppose a rigid water carrier takes up the same space full or empty so maybe you not as daft as I first thought - saves a trip to the tap after you arrive!

Don't forget chocolate and wine :-)

Hot choc nice too.

Caspar I always take one of the big 5l water flagons from Tesco and then use that throughout the trip. I have never found a camping water container that doesn’t taste plasticky.

Avoid frying anything.
Hard boiled eggs can be the centre of lots of meals.

Porridge and cereals nice and easy. Biscuits and crackers, cheese and tomatoes. Pickles. Coleslaw .

Tin fruit, baked beans.

Too late for this trip, but next time, make up the dry ingredients for pancakes in a Ziploc bag. Add an egg and some milk on camp and shake to mix (or tip dry into a bowl and whisk in that). Pancakes for breakfast, especially with either Nutella and marshmallows, or bacon (and maple syrup if you like), is the food of the Gods! And makes you a firm favourite with DCs.

And make up a Mexican meat sauce - chill con carne made at home and frozen for travel, or fresh chicken made into fajita sauce with peppers, onions and spice mix. Serve into a bag of doritos opened along their side, with some grated cheese over the top.
