Electric hook up - what do you take?

Hi we have finally given in and purchased the kit for electric hook up and booked a pitch for the weekend. What else do people use it for other than charging phones and blowing up the airbeds?

Fridge. Light in the tent.

jellyandsoup · 13/08/2018 16:40

Wow why hadnt I thought of a light? We don't have a fridge but not too worried as only a weekend.

Kettle (ours is a cheap Argos one). I can’t bear needing a cuppa first thing & having to drag the gas stove outside, hook it up & wait ages for the kettlevto boil. Especially if it’s raining.

ScribblyGum · 13/08/2018 16:43

Light.
Travel kettle.
Fan heater to dry the towels.

Nyancat · 13/08/2018 16:44

Small blow heater to take chill off at night and in am

ScribblyGum · 13/08/2018 16:44

...to dry the towels when the sun cannot dry the towels because it is pissing down relentlessly for days and days on end and your towels and cold and damp and you wondered why camping was ever a good idea for a fun family holiday.

jellyandsoup · 13/08/2018 16:48

Oh no, we just had an excellent trip to Germany where the sun shone down hotly all the lifelong day and my towels were dry and crispy. No I take my fan heater when I go camping in Wales where the rain it doth fall heavily upon the tent and the towels dryeth not.

loubielou31 · 13/08/2018 17:09

The kettle, toaster, we only had a two ring burner and even under the grill I am prone to burning toast. and a fan heater. I did once take the microwave for sterilising babies bottles.

Hair straighteners!

profpoopsnagle · 13/08/2018 19:47

We usually use a travel kettle, coolbox and have 3 lights. They are from IKEA and clip on to the tent poles. We also charge phones, and sometimes use the car dvd player, or a slow cooker.

I've just done my first EHU camping trip last weekend.
I went out on the 2nd day and bought a kettle! Oh the luxury of being able to have a hot drink at night without having to mess around with the stove! Washing up was loads easier with properly hot waer too. I bought a normal kettle as I'd been told a travel kettle still takes ages to boil.
We also charged phones and I had a heater which we didn't use, but in hindsight drying clothes would have been a great idea!
Future purchases may be a decent light.

I also need to think about where I can safely put the kettle as I was constantly worried it would get knocked over by the kids.

DanSullivan · 14/08/2018 08:44

We take a travel kettle and a little toaster (it’s amazing the meals you can create with just a kettle and a toaster!), a little heater and a laptop. The laptop proved essential this weekend when it rained and rained! The heater is useful for drying out condensation from the tent before striking.
I love camping with EHU now and I can’t imagine camping without it!

Jins · 14/08/2018 08:51

When we had the tent and EHU we took kettle, heater and one of those long work lamps for garages. The DSs took their portable DVD players as well

SendYouUpInFlames · 14/08/2018 08:55

Light, kettle, electric washer/ dryer, fridge.

CasperGutman · 14/08/2018 10:17

Many sites only offer a 10A hookup, so the total power for all appliances in use at once would need to be 2300W or 2.3kW max, otherswise you risk it tripping out, blowing a fuse or worse. A decent kettle is 3kW on its own, so it's worth checking.

Arthuritis · 14/08/2018 10:23

We take an electric cool box, light, heater, kettle, toaster and hairdryer

forgivenminds · 14/08/2018 10:31

We take a electric portable induction hob and teppanyaki grill plate as when we travel abroad for a few weeks we don't want to worry about running out of gas and not been able to replace

NearlySchoolTimeAgain · 19/08/2018 06:56

Value kettle = low wattage
Halogen oven
Electric blankets
Lights
DVD player
Fan
Mini oil radiator
Phone chargers

funmummy48 · 19/08/2018 07:16

Light, electric coolbox, mini oil filled radiator, fan for when it gets too hot, full size kettle, toaster, slowcooker. We just make sure we don't have too much plugged in at once.

deplorabelle · 20/08/2018 15:39

How on earth do you fit all these things in? We did our first EHU camp this summer and found a hairdryer really useful as it doubles as a heater/towel dryer.

Laptop and phone charging was great. We had a tiny fridge but could have managed without it fairly happily. We didn't bother with a kettle as we have a trangia boiler which is just as good

Jumbojem · 24/08/2018 22:12

Light is cheap as chips plug in strip light from Screwfix , kettle, heater if cold, plug in cool box. Plus recharging stuff. I've seen others use those mini ovens you can buy from Aldi/ Lidl so fancy that or a halogen cooker in future.
