Air tent recommendations

We're looking at getting an air tent for next year as we are fed up of trying to put our current one up. We both have joint conditions which means we need a tent we can stand up in - which then poses the problem of getting it up as I'm only 5 ft so really struggle to help DP put it up and DSD is only 6 so can't help much either.

Has anyone got an air tent big enough to stand up in? Would you recommend your current one?

We need one big enough for three, preferably two separate bedrooms as DSD is a pretty light sleeper and would wake up if we tried sharing a room. Also big enough to stand up in.

I've got the Kampa Studland Air 8 - I absolutely love it but it is huge , extremely heavy and you often need to phone the campsite to check they have a big enough pitch! I think they do a smaller version though. It is very easy to put up though.

@AnglesWithSilverWings have just had a Google and that looks a really nice tent! How are the bedrooms separated? I can't tell from the photos I have found online.

I recommend our Berghaus air tent every time someone asks about blow up tents. We've got and air 4, which is a good size for the three of us, but they also do a 6 and 8

DH can put it up by himself in 20 mins while I get other stuff sorted, and it survived 80mph winds when we were in Islay last year Confused

We have a Berghaus Air 6xl which is brilliant.
Three bedrooms, large living area and substantial porch which provides shade and an outside cooking area. I can and do regularly put it up and down by myself easily (5'3")

The studland air 8 has three bedroom compartments across the back of the tent and another at the front ( we don't use that one and removed it as there are only four of us)

The middle back compartment is bigger than the two either side so DH and I have the middle compartment and the kids each take a side compartment.

It really is a lovely tent. Very light and airy and it has a great porch area.

Last week we were camping on a cliff top and a force 8 gale struck. Our tent stayed up all night while all the other tents around us collapsed. We were impressed with the way it withstood such severe weather. ( was still terrifying though!)

we have a berghaus 6xl and its fab! i can put it up myself at 5ft3 - takes longer to peg in than put up! it has three bedrooms but yhe dividers can be opened for a bigger bedroom. Its really light inside and had good air flow! you can easily stand up inside and has a decent porch. I like all yhe storage pockets too!

should add the tent withstood a very windy storm with 50mph winds when poled tents were coming down around us

We've also got the Studland Air 8, now in its third year. Love it. The poly cotton is cool, and the bedroom configuration is the best that we found for a family of four. The Vango and Outwell near-equivalents had very small third/fourth bedrooms. We use the large middle one for DH and me. We have a double Aerobed, which fits ok. The DC Have a bedroom each either side of us, which gives them room for their airbeds and their kitbags. Our kitbags go in the fourth bedroom, which we love to refer to as the "dressing room" (get me, in a tent). With the vents open the tent can be a bit open, so a room in which to change, keep the laundry basket and stack the wash bags, is great. The awning is huge, and although it's big, it does use room efficiently. It's too much of a faff as a weekend tent, but great for longer stretches - we use it for three weeks each summer.

We've got a Kampa Croyde. I wrote Croyden first, but that wouldn't be the most inspirational of tent names!

We love it, airbeam saved our marriage/camping holidays!

AngelsWithSilverWings · 09/08/2018 08:59

We were all set to buy the Croyde. I'd been admiring it for a few years before we finally decided to upgrade.

On the day we went to buy it we had our heads turned by the Studland. As much as I love my big beast of a tent I think the Croyde would have been the more sensible option!

The Studland takes up the entire boot of our Nissan and won't even fit in our VW Passat ( which was a big problem as that was always our camping car!)

We have a Berghaus Air 6 which I've just been waxing lyrical about on another thread. DH is 6'4" and can stand up easily in the living area, and I suspect he could put it up single-handed if necessary (it helps to have someone supporting the first couple of beams as they inflate but you don't need to be tall for that).

We too have Bergman’s 6xl my DH can put it up on his own, stood up to high winds and torrential rain a few months back.

I’m 5ft2 I could put it up on my own, but can’t load it in or out of the car as it’s a heavy bag and I have a dodgy back. I think most of them are big heavy bags to be fair.

We love our and are heading out with it on Monday

We have the Zempire Aerodome 2. Very easy to put up. The pegging is what takes the time.

Not cheap but worth it.
