In terms of safety being in UK on campsite one woman two children - how risky do you think this is?

Would you do it?

Oh, I was thinking more in terms of not having another set of hands to help.

And thinking NO.

Not because of risk, but b/c camping is hard enough with two or more adults around.

DimpledThighs · 01/06/2007 09:48

My children are 7 and 4 and I cope a lot on my own anyway so I am not worried baout the coping thing more the in a tent at 3am hearing a noise aspect!

Is fine I think, after all there will be other people only a tent pole away from you. I'd have thought it was quite safe, just hard work vis a vis someone needing to wee in the middle of the night, and do you escort 7yo or send on own or wake 4 yo etc. OR and this is best, send her behind the tent.

Ceolas · 01/06/2007 09:55

or a potty/bucket with lid?

ahundredtimes · 01/06/2007 09:58

ooh inspired Ceolas. OK that's dealt with. Are you going to a camp site or on the side of a hill somewhere?

DimpledThighs · 01/06/2007 10:04

will be in a campsite in the same town where my aunt lives and I am okay with the weeing behind the tent thig - thought I would 'toilet' them last thing and hope for the best.

Didn't think twice but DP is a bit worried and I want to reassure him.

You have the All Clear from me - am sure dp will be hugely reassured to hear this is the case

foxinsocks · 01/06/2007 10:15

I think you are brave - not from the security side but from the hassle side!

I'm sure it's fine safety wise.

I'm going campng just me and dd this summer. Not risky I don't think. But I will take potty so I can pee in the tent last hing at night ratehr than go to loo block and leave her in tent by herself.

purpleduck · 01/06/2007 11:49

DimpledThighs · 01/06/2007 12:14

You will be fine. I was a single mum for 6 years and used to take DS1 & DS2 camping on my own from when they were aged about 3/4 years. We had a great time. Enjoy yourself it will be loads of fun, just remember to pack a bottle of wine for yourself!!!

am thinking of doing this over the summer for a few days, so feeling reassured. Still looking for more thoughts on dog-free camp sites!

If you go to decent sites I see no problem with security, if you plan on pitching a tent in roadside laybys perhaps not.

allmytimeonmumsnet · 05/06/2007 10:42

I see no problem at all. Sometimes I think it would be easier WITHOUT dh!
My only concern is that you will feel a bit bored once the kids have gone to bed. Fine if its a friendly site and you can chat to people next door but otherwise I would wonder what to do with myself and would probably go to bed soon after them.

All depends on how old the kids are as well. I've got 3 (8,7 and 3) and I would trust one of the older ones to take the little one for a wee if I was cooking etc. Its just a matter of being a little bit more organised.

My friend has done this a few times [admiring]
