I never get a good nights sleep on our inflatable double mattress

Have just been on our first camping trip of the season and I had a really bad nights sleep both nights - plus my back started to hurt. I wake up every time DP moves.

What does everyone else sleep on? Is there a deluxe fail safe mattress out there for me?

I slept with Dh on an inflatable mattress one night (not camping) and it was awful, when one moves the other feels the movement multiplied.

need to pump it up really really hard.

puddle · 30/05/2007 16:10

Kathy it's worse when it's hard!

Oh it's a nightmare isn't it, you're paranoid about waking each other up but you're both awake anyway.
There's another thread just below somewhere on self-inflating mats (much better IMO).

We have one of these after reading good reviews - although not tried it out yet
coleman

Bouquets, what's a self-inflating mat?

Big plastic mat filled with foam, has 2 valves you open which inflate it slightly (but comfortably) then you close them off and it's ready. Quite tricky to deflate and roll back to fit their buckles, you and a mate have to lie on them to stop the air being sucked back in as you roll. But we have 2 and 2 small children and we manage fine.

I would highly recommend self inflating mats. They can be pricy, but we got some bulky ones in Aldi that were cheap as chips and we use them under our expensive ones as added padding and insulation, but DS uses one of those on his own. The problem with the inflatable mattresses, especially in this country, is that the air inside them gets cold and you wake up freezing (and seasick).

And we finally accepted that it's warmer (and you get a better night's sleep) if you keep to your own sleeping bag rather than zipping two together......oh how the romance has gone out of our marriage

Diasy you're so right about the air getting cold. Will have a google for them now.

These self-inflating mats sound good. Are they the ones at about £30 each? We don't go camping often enough to justify this added expense, although a good night's sleep is worth it.

Bouquetsofdynomite · 30/05/2007 21:15

Got mine cheaper on an Ebay shop called Cyber-Checkout.

Get seperate mats nothing worse than wobbling about everytime DH moves. Plus my DH is quite heavy so he ends up nearly on the floor and me wedged in beside him, never again.

I usually hate double airbeds and dh and i have had singles for the last few years but we have just bought one of the coleman comfort doubles and it is much much better than an ordninary double.

lailasmum · 05/06/2007 20:18

Some of them deflate just enough over night that you slightly touch the floor but not quite, this is horrible cos it makes you tense-it does me anyway. We just switched ours for better quality ones for this reason. We also have a single each and then you don't feel other people moving but you can still put them next to each other.
