we have just gone and bought a load of (cheap) camping gear and want to go for a trial next weekend, one night away with dh, dcs (3 and 4) and a mad labrador puppy.

can anyone recommend somewhere no more than 2 hours drive from edinburgh which is a nice location and will accept dogs?

thanks all

jedburgh camping and caravaning club site is nice and quiet. generally teh borders is nice for camping and fewer midge. there is another one near jedburgh, called jedwater or something, which is all singing and dancing but was booked out when we went.

This place is near me, and I can confirm what the comments say - it's just a small place, very well kept, the pub is slightly dilapidated, but normally friendly. There are quite a few things to do locally - always a coffee morning in the church hall on a Saturday morning. Sunday 9th there is a Gala day in the village, and following week is the local agricultural show.
If that doesn't appeal to you (and no reason why it should) the website the link is to has a good search facility, you should be able to find somewhere to suit.
Hope you have a great weekend.

Moffat's campsite, Dumfries & Galloway, is lovely and has lovely clean showering/toilet facilites. There's loads to do in the surrounding area and the owners of the campsite also own a big outdoor clothing/garden centre complex and restaurant on the same land I think - so it's really easy to get healthy meals and let the kids have fun in the playground. There's also a fishery there with falconry displays etc.

Would you consider fife?

We stayed at Craigtoun Meadows last year. It's really nice and St Andrews has lots to do. Beautiful beach in particular

Oh bum, no dogs

Millarochy Bay on the bank of Loch Lomond is really popular. I love that area, but I haven't stayed in that site.

It's about an hour and a half from Edinburgh and dogs are welcome.
