Question electrical hook up

Hello,

We're camping in Denmark, Sweden and Norway (with a stop in Belgium and Germany) this summer.

Some sites will have elec hookup, which we'd like to make use of when available.

What do we need?

I've seen the leads for caravans, but we are in a tent, so wanting to plug in phones/tablet/kettle. Also, I believe the hook up in Europe is a different socket to the uk sites.

Anyone able to explain it slowly and clearly got me?

:-)

It doesn't matter if you are in a tent or caravan, it's pretty much the same.

The very least you need, is one of these which incidentally is a very good price. They also have one for £24 but it doesn't have the 2 usb sockets. This type of unit has a RCD which will give you protection in case of getting wet. You might find getting some 2 way adapters useful (to fit 2 plugs in one), but you will have to check they work with the plastic covers. Obviously don't overload the sockets and with this unit it accepts 2 usbs which will help with charging of phones etc.

The blue circular bit you see on the end will fit in UK sites and a lot of overseas ones, but some sites may need an adapter. I've camped in North Europe a bit but it was pre-electric so I've no idea what sites are like, but to be honest it's worthwhile getting one to stick in the kit and then you've got it. It looks like this and converts a 2 pin to the 3.

The last thing that can be useful (although not in your case, bit for anyone else looking at using electric abroad) is a 2 pin to 3 pin converter, important if you hire a fridge.

It's a good idea to keep the RCD unit up off the floor if possible, even just on a box/stool in case of damp/floods. Also make sure any extra cable isn't too tightly coiled, nor a trip hazard.

Just seen that you're planning to use a kettle. If it's a travel kettle that's not usually too much of a problem but be wary that a high powered one could trip your connection. Most sites offer something like 6 amps/ 10 amps/ 16 amps, the lower the number, the more you have to watch not to draw too much at once and trip it.

Brilliant, thank you so much.

We'll be using a travel kettle, so that should be fine.

Really appreciate you taking the time to reply.
