Camping in/around the Loire Valley for one night

Hi,

We are camping virgins and I was wondering if anyone could help, we are travelling down through France in the summer and are looking to stay overnight in a campsite in the Loire. We are a family of 6 with four small children (oldest 6)

Is is possible to go and pitch a tent for one night?

How much roughly would we expect to pay?

Can anyone recommend a campsite in that area?

What should we expect and what do we need? We have got a tent, ready beds & travel cot. We are hoping to find somewhere with a cafe as we don't want to be laden down with any cooking or foodstuffs

Thanks very much

There are many municipal campsites in France - most towns have one. And it is v possible to pitch up for one night. They won't charge much at all.

Chateau des Marais is great, not too far off the main A10 too, so pretty good for stopovers, Resturant and takeaway onsirtr and shop woth fresh bread/croissants in the morning

I've recommended the campsite in Amboise before. It's called Camping de l'Ile d'Or.

It's a small and pretty town near Tours, on the Loire itself and the campsite is just opposite the chateau and on a small island in the river.

The campsite has at least a snackbar but a five minute walk over the bridge and you are in the town where there are plenty of places to eat.

Might be worth booking a pitch in advance wherever you decide to go.

crunchie's chateau des marais site is really nice too.

One option that might appeal to you is staying a night there with eurocamp - that way you wouldn;t have to pitch your tent just for the one night. I know they do this if they are not fully booked for the week, and would give you more time.

Thank you so much Crunchie and aDad, never asked for anything on here before so was a bit nervous asking for advice but I have googled both and feel reassured that we can find something.

DH is not to keen on the I'ile d'Or as with two very young ones we err on the side of over caution and is worried about the rivers.

Thanks again much appreciated.

fierbois is pleasant too if you are travelling south of Tours on the A10.
