Last year we noticed lots of fellow campers had gazebos to sit under at night and under which to store shoes etc.

Do other mumsnetters have one and where can I buy the cheapest one?

Don't have one

Lucycat · 20/05/2007 19:42

You might be better going for a day tent - they are less likely to take off in a slight breeze!

twinsetandpearls · 20/05/2007 20:17

will sites not object to you pitching another tent, will it not double our fees?

Gazebos are popular where there are several families camping together so that they can set up a dining area which should be rain free. I would expect you would have to pay an extra pitch fee for them, so perhaps less appealing to families on their own.

We have a day tent to store all the cooking stuff/chairs in and we eat in it if it's wet/windy. Sites we've been to charge about an extra £2 per night...well worth it in our opinion!

AttillaTheHan · 21/05/2007 13:49

lolpop where did you get your day tent from?

BettySpaghetti · 21/05/2007 13:50

Gazebos are about £12-15 at Argos

BettySpaghetti · 21/05/2007 13:51

Actually they're cheaper than I thought -£9.99

bonkerz · 21/05/2007 13:56

Saw loads of people using gazebos as well when we went camping and are taking ours this time. Are hoping that beacuse we will use it to cover gap between 2 tents that we can pitch for free. Seems like a great idea though to store stuff under and also to eat under if rainging!

We took our Gazebo - bought from Homebase - camping - 1-it wasn't waterproof - 2 - it took off in high winds - don't think we will bother again!

Milliways · 21/05/2007 16:24

Not cheap, but we love taking
This when we go with a group.

Lucycat · 21/05/2007 17:33

We saw a gazebo destroy another tent this year in Dorset - it took off across a big open field completely flattening someone else's tent when it landed

they are really meant for back gardens not campsites.

TwoToTango · 21/05/2007 17:48

Whats a day tent and how much do they cost. I was going to get a gazebo for this years camping trips but the not waterproof comment has put me off?

lolpop · 22/05/2007 09:04

We bought ours from a camping place in Abergavenny I think. Cost a fair bit more than a gazebo (£90) but is more solid - we've seen too many gazebo's go flying across campsites when it's windy!

It's the Khyam Day Shelter at the bottom of this page.

TwoToTango · 22/05/2007 15:58

Thanks for that
