well, ordered a sunncamp oasis 600 at least
brother in law was here this w/e and he egged me on (left to our own devices we'd never have bought one, we've been searching for over a year now )
anyone know it? (PLEASE DON'T SAY ANYTHING BAD ABOUT IT ) I just hope it won't be a killer to put up
now, what else do we need???

They're perfectly OK, Sunncamp tents are really good quality

now you need sleeping equipment, cooking and eating equipment, chairs and maybe a table

And a corkscrew obv.

Blandmum · 13/05/2007 19:34

Sunncamps have a good rep! Don't worry!

Don't forget the wine!!!

pickledpear · 13/05/2007 19:37

and a tin opener for your beans

sarahhal · 13/05/2007 19:40

Oh lucky you. DH has just announced in the midst of a very bad mood that he really doesn't want to go camping at all as he has hated every trip we have had! He says that with the DSes 4 and 2 it's too stressful and he's rather just go for day trips and come home.
I am very very as I was so looking forward to a trip to the Lakes as soon as it gets better weather.
Have declared that I will go alone but to be honest can't see that happening as I'm far too much of a softy and couldn't even begin to put the tent up either

dustystar · 13/05/2007 19:43

Ring ahead sarah and see if they have someone at the site who'll give you a hand. Quite a few will help if you need it.

Make sure you have a bucket with a lid jeangenie for nighttime weeing

PeachyChocolateEClair · 13/05/2007 19:44

Sarah you need a khyam then, or if its justa few of you a pop up tent (perhaps on of those Gelert ones, and leave 2 year old with DH)

PeachyChocolateEClair · 13/05/2007 19:45

there you go!

sarahhal · 13/05/2007 19:48

You know, I might just take DS1 after all! Watch this space although I am hoping that the miserable old sod will change his mind. He's done this before and once he's put in charge of sorting out something else and realised that I'm actually right and that anything else in the UK is out of our budget he'll do it!

jeangenie · 13/05/2007 20:03

sleeping, cooking, weeing - might have known I could count on MN to cover all bases

good luck Sarah, I hope your DH changes his mind. I am so looking forward to getting camping now

ps any recommendations on best place to buy all my required items online?

OP posts:
dustystar · 13/05/2007 20:09

What sort of stuff do you need? Argos sell quite a lot of basic things at a good price. You can get a bucket with a lid from Boots.

PeachyChocolateEClair · 13/05/2007 20:11

outdoor megastore ot outdoor world are pretty universally good, I trhink, as is taunton leisure or indeed somerset camping

Do you know what you will be cooking with? We find a camping gaz party grill combo is invaluable (its a single tripod with a burner, over which can go a griddle with collection tray and also theres a wok attachement that can be used for example for curry)

OOh if youre taking airbeds make sure it either has an inbuilt ump or you take an electric one (under a tenner in tesco), its so much worth the money!

PeachyChocolateEClair · 13/05/2007 20:12

oh and a new site I found earlier

which is bizarre as I was in their shop 3 weeks ago LOL and never even had heard of them

Lucycat · 13/05/2007 20:16

Towsure are good for most things too.

Last year I posted my camping list (saved on the 'puter) but I think it scared a few people

Nice tent btw

mosschops30 · 13/05/2007 20:19

Ooh am sooo we are looking at a sunncamp too although not as big or posh as yours it looks lovely.

Have just bought loads of tableware from Tesco which I thought was reasonable, 4xbowls 62p, 4 plates 62p, cutlery set 62p etc etc

Good luck

PeachyChocolateEClair · 13/05/2007 20:27

Which one Mosschops? make sure you check the review on ul campsite before you buy

mosschops30 · 13/05/2007 21:27

on what peachy? am I missing some camping essential website?

dh has been looking ar lots tonight so a review site would be great

PeachyChocolateEClair · 13/05/2007 22:05

uk campsite

its the biz

here

Tis the biz

jeangenie · 14/05/2007 09:13

agree, ukcampsite is great - can be difficult to find a "review" per se of a particular tent (tho' maybe I have been looking in the wrong place) but you should definitely find lots of comments dotted throughout the threads if you are looking at a popular model

Lucycat, thanks to you too for the tent compliment - would be great if you could post your list again, even if it is really scary

I am sure I will be starting with the minimum necessary and adding to it as we go (as the budget is a bit blown now)

so I am thinking
corkscrew (got that)
airbeds (need to buy)
sleeping bags (need to buy)
something to cook on (need to buy)
kettle (need to buy)
pots and pans (old ones from our kitchen to start with)
plates, cups etc (will use our picnic set)
bucket avec lid (could use DDs nappy bucket!)

I have a chair
DH and the kids can sit on the ground

are we sorted?

OP posts:
PeachyChocolateEClair · 14/05/2007 10:23

With the chairs, what we did first time (wasn't sure DH would like so argos sale tents and borrowed everything else LOL) was use the carseats fro their chairs, when we knew we liked it (and that with DS's it was feasible) we bought then

dustystar · 14/05/2007 13:20

You can get sets of pots and pans with a kettle from about £10 and they are good as they all fit inside each other so take up very little space in the car.

mosschops30 · 14/05/2007 17:14

from where dusty?

They have the camping chairs in Asda at the moment for £5.49 which is a bargain

dustystar · 14/05/2007 17:45

These are £12.99 and are the cheapest that Argos sell and more or less the cheapest you'll get a set for. The frying pan isn't good for cooking eggs though so if you want to fry eggs you may want to look at a non-stick variety like this

Lucycat · 14/05/2007 17:52

jeangenie - Are you sure you really want this? we do have a roof box too and don't take all this stuff for less than a week! Any questions then please just ask!
