Who has camped in 2007 so far and did you find it chilly - if not daytime at night?

Our first 2007 camping trip is going to be end of May. It's absolutely chucking it down with rain outside right now and I'm on the edge of putting the central heating back on again. Am desperately hoping the weather is going to improve before we go.

brrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr!

well where I live just now, it would be freezing camping at night, last year in July I was camping and the weather was a bit like this and it was fairly cold at night, though I didn't have any insulation under my mattress, but yes I think it could be cold, if you are camping anywhere northerly and near the sea...

I camped in June in the NE of Scotland years ago and it was -4 at night, we just had those really thin mats too, there was a really thick frost the next morning, covering the tent.if this emoticon was covered in snow, it would work as the teeth chattering emoticon

did the new forrest for the weekend a fortnight ago. Very chilly at night and taking a while to get warm in the morning.

This weather needs to sort itself out before half term. I'm doing a week camping on the Isle of Wight and can't bail out early if it's bad weather as we are tied to our ferry booking.

mildredpierce · 11/05/2007 15:18

we were camping in nwales a couple of weeks ago. I thought it was surprisingly warm, but we did have thermals, sleeping bags AND a duvet....

sarahpea · 11/05/2007 16:23

mosschops30 · 11/05/2007 16:25

Yay I can join a camping thread

I went for the first time last weekend (yes it pissed down all day sunday and night and monday) but no was not cold in the nights however I did sleep with my clothes on but only had a sleeping bag and blanket over me. The kids were fine too (10 and 2)

In the garden a few nights ago.
Lovely and warm in normal pyjamas and a new sleeping bag on a thin foam roll-mat.
That's in Yorkshire.

I think Mosschops is a born camper.

tbh I don't think it's been as cold at night in the last couple of months as it was last Whit in N Wales.

My temp gauge said -2C at 10pm - early to bed....but that's what you get when you have lovely weather during the day.

wheresthevalium · 11/05/2007 18:17

We did Woolacombe last weekend, it was bloody freezing and bucketed down the whole time we were there. I was sharing a double airbed/sleeping bag contraption with DP and we were both still cold (sorry)

dustystar · 11/05/2007 18:22

You never can tell with the british weather can you. We camped at the beginning of april this year and it was cold but we were fine in our thermals etc. Last year during whitsun we went to Exmoor and it was lovely until the last night when it was freezing cold. When i got up in the morning there was frost on the ground Couldn't beleive i was camping and it was frosty - especially as it was the 31st June

dustystar · 11/05/2007 18:22

Sorry i meant 31st of may

sarahhal · 11/05/2007 18:46

We really wanted to go for our first trip during half term in two weeks but I think it'll be too cold at night! Was so looking forward to it with the fab weather a couple of weeks ago but look at it now! Or is it just grim up here in Yorkshire?!!!

dustystar · 11/05/2007 19:07

sarah - you'll be fine with extra duvets and thermals. The first time we went at Easter we were a bit cold as we didn't have all the right gear but since then we have learned and now we are lovely and warm.

Obviously plenty of wine helps
