What sort of site are you looking for?

Sparkler1 · 29/04/2007 21:06

Hi Scooby!
We like a camp site with some sort of entertainment on site. DH and I are happy to live without but dds love all that - and of course if the kids are happy mum and dad are happy too!
We will have our car with us so will be able to travel around to points of interest. Near a good beach would be lovely but not essential. DDs love swimming too so pool good also.

Grange Farm at Brighstone Bay here.

wheresthehamster · 29/04/2007 21:07

Oh, Grange Farm probably not what you are looking for.

ShrinkingViolet · 29/04/2007 21:17

we're just back from Whitecliff Bay this evening! - are you camping as in tents? If so, then you're across a road from the evening entertainment/bars/swimming pool, there's not anything at this time of year for kids per se, but it's directly above a sandy beach with rock pools and fossils and cliffs to climb etc etc. I beleive there is a kids club thing in the summer, but we've only been there end April/early May.
We were staying there as part of a sports thing, but we'd consider it for a family holiday (DDs 5,9, and 14) - it's a pretty good base to do stuff on the island.

ShrinkingViolet - we are thinking of going for a few nights over the bank holiday at end of May. Do you think the entertainment will be available then?

OP posts:
nappyaddict · 29/04/2007 21:23

yes i really like it. how old are your children though?

the campsite is one side of a road (only a country road but still has a fair amount of traffic) and everything else (swimming pool, amusements, childrens club is on the other side with the chalets.

if they were old enough to be trusted to go by themselves this wouldn't be a problem or if you wouldn't mind having to go with them.

Sparkler1 · 29/04/2007 21:23

DH and I have just been chatting and looks like we will be camping for about 3/4 nights only. So onsite entertainment not absolutely essential. Will look through these other suggestions with great interest. Thankyou.

DDs are 7 and 5. Not old enough yet - although they like to think they are at the moment.

there is a play area on the camping side of the road that the kids went go to on their own. eldest was 7 youngest was 2.

Sparkler1 · 29/04/2007 21:29

Can someone tell me how long it takes at Whitecliff Bay to walk from campsite to entertainment. Thanks. We are seriously looking at booking it now.

nappyaddict · 29/04/2007 21:29

id say entertainment would definitely be on from whit week.

ShrinkingViolet · 29/04/2007 21:30

the website here doesn't say, so you'd probably be best to email/ring them and ask. We weren't especially interested as we had organised stuff to do all weekend. They are very friendly and accomodating though (couldn't be otherwise when we were in a group of about 150 people; there was another group of similar size who also go there same time every year; plus probably another 50-80 assorted semi-related groups.
Would advise avoiding the last weekend in April as there's a lot of us and we take over the camping/caravan field a bit on the Saturday night...)

nappyaddict · 29/04/2007 21:30

it depends if you are in field one, two or three tbh.

i went a couple of years ago now but probably about 10 minutes?

Sparkler1 · 29/04/2007 21:31

Thanks nappyaddict. Just thinking about having two tired dds at the end of the evening. There is no way we could carry them back to the tent anymore.

OP posts:
nappyaddict · 29/04/2007 21:34

we went with children aged 2, 4, 7 and 8. they were all made to have a nap in the evening before we went out so they wouldn't be tired staying up until the end. the 4 year old did have to sleep in the 2 year olds buggy a few times though on the way back.

hennipenni · 30/04/2007 15:13

OOOOh scooooobydoooo and wheresthehamster, we are staying at Grange Farm soon an am reeeeaaaallllyyyyy excited!!!!

PeachyChocolateEClair · 30/04/2007 17:02

nodes Point is fabulous yes indeedy! Also has expanded its camping space so you should be able to get a space easily at quite short notice, they did up the loo blocks as well last summer.

have a look on the park resotrts site, we've been 3 years now (year off this year) and although we don't use the club much, being literally right on a nice quiet beach is fabulous.

PeachyChocolateEClair · 30/04/2007 17:03

oh park resorts campsite to entertainment under 5 mnutes, probably 3.

pickledpear · 30/04/2007 17:13

hi i live on isle of wight but used to holiday here before we moved nodes point is a lovely campsite but the pool is very old and they have taken slides away and so not much really happening on the site the changing rooms are a bit old too well there is one cubicle not family size..
if you are in tents then i not so sure park resorts or haven sites do tents most now do static caravans in which case lower hyde has everything you could ever wat all in one site but fire away with questions

Celery · 30/04/2007 17:21

Thorness Bay is nice and it has its own beach. There's an indoor swimming pool, shop, bar, entertainment ( not sure to what extent ) playground etc
