Need a plush campsite for northern France in July

We are going camping in France, probably last two weeks in July (first two if we have difficulty getting in) and need a really nice campsite with good wash/shower facilities.

DH would quite like to go and see WWII sites in Normandy etc but we don't have to be really near them, just an hour's drive or so.

Obviously a pool, boules and table tennis etc would be good.

MN (thanks Lilymaid) got me a great site this past weekend and DH was so impressed I told him I'd return to the MN oracle and see if you guys could suggest another great site for our summer hols.

It's over to you!

We are going to Les Ormes in Dol de Bretagne- not been there before (well, DH played golf next door!) but have heard good reports. Lots of kids' activities (4 to teens), indoor and outdoor pools, golf course next to it (yawn).

les ormes campsite

(by the way we are going the lazy way this year with Keycamp! Have only just bought own tent so are trying it out on a few weekends in UK first)

A good idea is to get hold of Eurocamp / Key Camp / Canvas holidays brochures then have a good look at where they go to - then book yourself!

are you thinking of doing the Portsmouth - Caen crossing?

Hi, we've been to lovely campsites in Normandy, both with Eurocamp. One is in Houlgate, (campsite is called La Vallee) which is a very small campsite but ideally placed for visiting WWII sites and also not far from beautiful towns such as Honfleur and Trouville and Deauville. The beach is within walking distance (15 mins) and Houlgate itself is a very pretty town. The campsite is set on a hill and you get lovely views out to sea, but it is very small and there is only a small pool. The second, larger campsite is on the Cherbourg peninsula, and it's a 'Castels' site, which means it is a highly rated in France. It's called Chateaux de lez Eaux (www.lez-eaux.com) and it is a stunning site set in the grounds of a beautiful chateau. The main attraction now children are in the 5-10 age range is the amazing water park - they also have a brilliant little park/play area and it's only 5 mins to the beautiful beaches of Normandy. It's not a 'busy' site, and they don't have discos, etc. so doesn't attract families with teenagers. We drove to Caen in about an hour, and also the Bayeux Tapestry isn't far. It was recommended to us and we've been back twice!

Thanks for all your suggestions - they look great, I'm sure we'll find something.

We are going to do Dover-Calais crossing because we can use our Clubcard vouchers and it's not so far.. we went to Vendee last year from Calais. That was pretty far!

o, I'm going to les ormes too.

It's recommended in Rough Guide for campers

Which area is Les Ormes?
