Help - need a campsite North Wales/North West this weekend

nh101 · 17/04/2007 12:52

We had lined up Conwy Touring Park for Fri to Tues but their electric tent pitches close down for maintenance on Monday. So looking for something else. We don't want anything too far from home (90mins drive max) - we live in Formby in Merseyside, so south Lakes or North Wales (Denbigh etc) .

Any recommendations?

I like a nice shower block!

How about Riverside Camping at Caernarfon, Eisteddfa at Criccieth, Beddgelert Forest Holidays, all of the above are lovely, just depends whether you want a river, seaside or forest setting!

is the LLeyn too far for you for the weekend?

Lilymaid · 17/04/2007 14:57

What about Plassey ?

nh101 · 17/04/2007 15:11

Hey lucycat! You're a blue aren't you? Me too. Nice to virtually meet you! All your suggestions are a little too far unfortunately.

Lilymaid - I have looked at Plassey before - definitely a contender. Will have to check my walking book to see what the area offers.

uh oh my reputation preceeds me yes I am an ardent blue - for my sins! Have been for 30 odd years - that's why i look 80!

They are all a bit too far for us too for the weelens but lovely for the week - how about Anglesey? Home Farm is really nice and a bit nearer cos of the A55

nh101 · 17/04/2007 16:44

Might go for Plassey cos it is only 90 mins drive - we are pretty restricted with north Wales cos even Conwy is 90 mins. Wouldn't want to go any further on a Friday night after work.

Someone mentioned you and Squonk to me on a different thread, where I was moaning that my DH will quite possibly be going to Athens this year - don't worry, he's a Liverpool fan not a rag. I have been a city fan for 18 years now. When do I get to go to a cup final???

In fact, just tell me when I get to see another goal scored at home.

OP posts:
Lucycat · 17/04/2007 18:08

ahh we don't do cup finals!

Just staying up is good enough most years! - do you go to any games?

Have you thought about somewhere in Lancs?

nh101 · 18/04/2007 14:11

Yeah I go to all Saturday home games, don't bother midweek cos I work in Preston and live in Liverpool so it is a bit of a trek. Sundays can also be difficult depending on what Liverpool are doing - if scousers play Sat and then City play Sunday I don't get to see DH all weekend. Not that he gives up Liverpool to see me!

Watch all telly games on TV as it is cheaper (£8 v £35 - no contest)

My dad still has a season ticket and the seat next to him has no season ticket holder in it so I can usually ring up early doors and book the seat next to him. That's great cos I don't like going on my own.

We've got no kids yet so that makes it easier. Do you get to games?

Hiya!

I try to but when SKY mess about with the fixture times it's a nightmare - pre kids we used to follow them all over the country to away games too, there used to a gorgeous greasy spoon type caff near Highbury somewhere that I particularly used to look forward to

Not sure whether to renew my season ticket next year it's sooo expensive, but I've had it for 20 years...... we sit in the West Stand and I can't get used to CoMs either, I still miss Maine Road

we had a chat last night on here about City, all was going well at one point......

Nemo2007 · 18/04/2007 14:30

The plassey is supposed to be really nice. Havent been myself but may do over the summer short journey is ideal for the kids..

BTW you should come over onto the liverpool thread we do occasionally get adult nights out aswell..lol

Leander · 18/04/2007 14:37

We went to a lovely campsite last weekend, but it depends what you are looking for, it was basic but clean, no club but it was a working farm with sheep and donkeys chickens and peacocks, the kids loves it.The showers were basic but very clean and the bonus for us was you could have your own campfire. It was about 10 mins from caernarfon(sp).

Nemo2007 · 18/04/2007 14:45

ohh leander what are the details for it??? Love a proper camp fire..shell island lets you do them

Leander · 18/04/2007 14:49

Nemo cant rember what it was called will ask dh later, it was in a town called Waunfaur or something like that. It was great the kids loved feeding the donkeys and collecting firewood, the weather was fab so i expect that helped

Thanks for all your messages re. the camping. MN is great

Hi Lucycat! You never know, one day we might get to a cup final and then you'll need your season ticket (and you know the cup final will come the very season you give it up).

I had a ST for eight years and used to travel home and away with the Levenshulme Blues (when I was a student and therefore could afford to ). That was in the dark (but fun) days of the first and second division - had to give up when I started work as a sports journalist therefore had to work Saturdays (covered Wigan Athletic at first when they were at their old ground). I am a magazine journo now giving me my Saturdays free

I sit in East Stand Lower with Dad, I think it is a great stadium. Loved Maine Road but more so when the Kippax was standing. Away games are the best: I went to Anfield this season and we sang for 90 minutes and were still singing as we were walking out - the Scousers we were well bemused!

Didn't really expect us to get anything from Arsenal - I barely expect us to get anything from any game these days! Watford are a typical example - will be a 0-0 draw no doubt. Villa next week - we usually beat them.

You've got me going now!!

Nemo this is the campsite we stayed at.

nh101 · 24/04/2007 14:49

Just got back from Plassey - fantastic! The showers even had temperature gauges. Lovely site, great area for walking etc, 1hr 10 mins from home. It will be becoming a regular bolt hole from now on.

Thanks Lilymaid

Was it really nice then nh101?

We've looked at it for weekends too, but I was worried that it would be too commercialised and busy, no?

nh101 · 26/04/2007 17:17

They were pretty full, but it was still quiet, nice people and not too much noise. It is probably mad in high summer though. It was lovely, I'd definitely recommend it.
