Wonder if anyone can help, I have been camping the last couple of years with 3 kids and dh, we had a large 9 bed tent but it took an hour with 2 of us to but up. This year am camping alone with the kids.
(dh buggered of with another women)
So i need I really easy tent, I am only doing max of 3 nights at a time, also I like to travel around so need to be able to put it up and down easily.
I love the look of those pop up tents but they only seem to come in small sizes.
I would need at least a 4 man tent.
Many thanks

Don't buy anything without a sewn-in groundsheet.

Sounds perfect!

Look at the microfast 9 tent from Ironclad Outdoors (online). They sell it the cheapest at about £189 with their 10% discount (over £300 on some other sites). It's a large tunnel pop-up tent. Takes about 10 minutes to put up including pegging out. I use it as I go camping alone with my 7 year old daughter.
Bit of a knack to getting it down again, but it sleeps up to 9 people.

Have a look!

We have a single pole tipi. Dp and I can get it up in 11 minutes from a standing start. And down and packed in 15 minutes. And it packs into a bag I can carry. AND it is to coolest thing going!!!

Spiritual Knot,

I've been looking at this tent for ages!

Do you think it matters that it doesn't have an inner tent - do you find this a problem.

I have a kyham - easy erect. But still find it very hard and looking for something even easier.

busy2busy · 10/04/2007 20:48

Hi Anyone there - who has experience of this large pop up tent.

Looking for the good and bad bits...

SpiritualKnot · 11/04/2007 08:23

Hi again,
It comes as an inner tent with a flysheet.
The pop up part of the microfast is the yellow inner tent. The green flysheet goes over the top of it. It velcroes onto the inner tent at the top and clips onto the inner tent at the bottom ready for pegging out. It has a sewn in ground sheet attached. I always put another groundsheet underneath as well to keep it clean.
It's great because it's so roomy, you can sit on your sleeping bags during the day without having to go into a sleeping area to do so.
It's tall enough to stand up in as well at 1.70m.

Thanks SK,

I think this might be a good tent for me. I really do find the one I've got hard to put up. All in all would you recommend it?

SpiritualKnot · 11/04/2007 23:06

I would certainly recommend it. Our other tent is a frame tent which I no longer use as this one is just so much easier. I particularly like the space in it.
If you look at Ironlad outdoors they offer 10% off on Tuesdays, but when I got mine I emailed them on a Saurday or something and they said to just put the Tuesday code in anytime for the reduction.

Thanks SK, food for thought.

Sorry to bug you with so many questions - I have been looking at this tent for weeks - I cannot understand why they are not sold more widely. This has put me off somewhat. You are the only person / review on the whole internet I can find with RL experience.

Anyway, how is the tent to put down - just as easy or more complicated> Also is there any windows (net or otherwise).

Did you see one in advance or did you buy on spec?

Many thanks for you help on this -

SpiritualKnot · 12/04/2007 11:16

It is a bit tricky to put down. The tent comes with instructions on how to put it down and none on how to put it up, which shows that that is the trickier area. I usually end up putting it back in my car in a butterfly shape rather than an oval and my husband gives me a hand with it when I get back home. There's a camping site on the internet where I asked about the tent first. One regular poster on there had a microfast 7, the next size down and she gave me advice and has pictures of her putting it up.Here's a link to it.

SpiritualKnot · 12/04/2007 11:19

There are no windows in the one I have. The entrances have a net. There's a newer model about that does it with windows..more expensive though. Can't remember where I saw it but it was online.

busy2busy · 12/04/2007 12:43

Thanks SK - really usesful. I did laugh at the take down instructions. Never easy.

I am so tempted....might give the company a ring later.

If you remember the posher one with the windows - let me know. Cheers

SpiritualKnot · 12/04/2007 16:41

This is all I could find. Called the Microfast mimas. Looks like it may only be available in Australia and in a smaller size?

SK I actually like the one you have the most so far.

Height sounds right, space excellent. Ease of set up.

I like camping - but hate the tent erecting. I have done tonnes of googles to find self erect, pop up, folding etc etc tents.

It seems weird these tents only come up on army surplus type sites!

Thanks again for all the information you have supplied it has been useful. The price isn't bad either.

Wish I could see one in the flesh so to speak - looks like I am going to have to risk it and just buy one.

Hi, we personally find the aztec sala 6 tunnel tent easy to put up. its simply 4 poles, 3 poles the same size and 1 small pole. All 4 poles are colour coded with the tent so its not posible to go wrong. It takes about 30 minutes to put up. This tent takes up2 6 people and has 3 seperate sleeping compartment. Hope this is helpful
