Recommend us a new tent (2 adults, 3 rapidly growing DC)

I think our trusty Outwell Montana 6 is coming to the end of its useful life; the little slightly broken bits / minor leaks are starting to mount up and I don't think it will stand up to another two weeks in the rain next year.

So we're looking around for an alternative -
with the DC getting older we could also do with three sleeping compartments rather than the two in the Monty.

Profile: DC are just teetering on the brink of teenagerhood, and we generally camp in 2-week blocks rather than short breaks. Also DH is tall (6'4") and wants to be able to stand up in the living area of the tent. Ideally we'd like to avoid "oversized" surcharges (have considered a second-hand Hartford XL, for example, but that needs a 7x7 pitch) but would suck it up for an otherwise-perfect tent. Also ideally we'd like tent to pack down to no bigger or heavier than the Monty (accept that may be unrealistic). DH fancies an awning he can cook under, too (plus world peace and an end to hunger).

Any suggestions, O wise campers of Mumsnet?

Sorry have no suggestions but am following. We currently have a Vango Maritsa 700 and need something a bit bigger.

We have 3 bedrooms but use the middle one for storage as we have 3 young children and the associated crap that comes with them . I don't like the tents that take up the living space by adding a pop up bedroom - as we also camp in 2 week blocks but in this country we spend a lot of time indoors! We also would like a completely enclosed front section (again due to the weather) with a possibility of an extension if we wanted. Or have seen a lot of Coleman event shelters around this year to cook / eat under.

We just can't seem to find anything that suits, despite having a good nose round camp sites this year. Would an Outwell Vermont work for you OP or would it be too large?

The Outwell Wolf Lake 7 has a massive footprint, costs a bomb, and otherwise fits all your requirements Grin

This article might help?

Depending on tne charging structure of sites you like, would a small additional tent for the biggest kids be an option?

Mine have slept in their own tent, small, since they were about 10. They like the independence, it creates flexibility.

Thank you all -- mobile reception deteriorated towards the end of our stay so I've only just been able to get back. Some good food for thought here (and DS managed to snap one of the tent poles on our last evening, so I think it's definitely farewell to the Monty and we've got a lot of options to consider in the off-season)

Btw - love your username. Huge Cabin Pressure fan.

For anyone who's interested... we wound up doing lots of sensible research and then ignoring most of it and impulse-buying a Berghaus Air 6 when an ex-display model came up on special offer.

Very happy with it so far (and have seen loads around this summer so perhaps it's the new Monty) - has coped well with sun and rain, and we like having sleeping compartments at either end of the tent instead of side-by-side now the DC are older. Plus it's a dream to put up.

We will probably get the add-on porch next summer because it's useful for wet weather. And I can see the appeal of the Air 8 if size weren't an issue, but as a good solid family tent I think we have made a good choice.

(It is only two bedrooms, but they are bigger than in the Monty so the kids are fine. We may hive DC1 off into a pup tent if it seems a good idea in a year or two).
