Looking for a Campsite in the New Forest

We're looking to camp B/Hols August with friends (3 families with children ages 7-12) in the New Forest - any recommendations? Basic but clean facilities, woodland and fields for the kids to roam, fire pit with log boxes available and a pub in walking distance would be a bonus but not essential.

Would dots camping fit the bill? I haven't been but it's on my 'to do' list.

White Meadow would have suited you perfectly. Thank the park authority for refusing planning permission for this year Angry

We've been to Green Hills a few times. Lovely, lovely campsite.

Sandy Balls?

Camping in the forest have several sites - we've been to holland's wood and thoroughly enjoyed it.

Camping in the forest have some great sites and you can search by requirements like electric hook up . Showers ect sone sites literally have nothing and some have it all ... you can find your own nook in the trees so feel like your actually in a forest

We went to hurst view last ear. Was fab. Has small shop, clean loos, a crabbing 'beach(not a beach for sitting on, but a fab crabbing jetty), close to amenities, play park.

My 3 loved it.

realwoodlogs · 22/07/2017 22:42

Camp fires allowed too.

thisgirlrides · 22/07/2017 23:04

Thanks all. Hurst view is fully booked and Hollands wood looks fab and on the list but quite pricey so keeping it as a back-up option. We've messaged Dots Camping for availability as that is more reasonable and look lovely so fingers crossed that comes through as free. Green hills looks a bit small/busy for our liking but thank you for the suggestion.

It's not the New Forest but the campsite at Fairthorne Manor in Southampton ticks most of those boxes, except the location and the pub. It's a lovely site and brilliant for kids roaming etc.

Otherwise our go-to site in the New Forest is Long Meadow I find the Camping in the Forest sites very expensive for what they are.

thisgirlrides · 22/07/2017 23:37

Oh gutted long meadow looks fab but full that weekend and the only definite is New Forest so trying to limit our search to just that location. Thanks anyway Smile.
Anyone stayed at Holmsley? It ticks all the boxes but a couple of reviews talk of poor toilet facilities (inadequate for numbers and poorly maintained).

It's a bit late to book for Aug BH. TBH I think you'll be lucky to find anything.

Was going to recommend Hurst View, too.

Lightpurpletulip · 23/07/2017 10:24

I know people who have been to Holmsley. Haven't heard any complaints.

We stay at roundhill for a long weekend with friends every year and always have a good time. The kids ride their bikes and are generally feral and you don't have to camp in rows!

We camp at lots of other places too, but the weekend at roundhill has become an absolute must for all of us!

I'd recommend Holmsley. Went there as a child and have camped there since with our children. I do remember the toilets being basic but adequate (in fact, I found someone sleeping in there one nightShock). Nice big open space site with easy walks beyond the site.
