Any ideas? We have a cadac and a gas burner. DS wants to toast marshmallows but we cook on these not a standard BBQ, I'm thinking s'mores wrapped in foil on the cadac but would appreciate better ideas

How about the old Girl Guides favourite? Split a banana lengthways, put squares of dairy milk in the split, wrap in tin foil and cook gently.

I do campfire cones - waffle cone stuffed with a choice of choc bits, marshmallows, strawberries, fudge bits, bananas, and so on, then wrapped in foil and put on the stove.
Pre bought pancakes wrapped round fillings

Ginger sponge and custard is our staple dessert. Also bananas and custard.

Stewed apples.

Tea cakes toasted on the open fire with more butter than your would dare at home.

and cook gently

Ahh Everyone if only I'd seen your advice before Saturday! I have no idea why I imagined 3 foil-wrapped stuffed bananas on a raving hot BBQ for half an hour would still resemble anything slightly bananary! Kids did point out they were glowing red! Result squshy mush!

There are lots of sponge puddings in the rice pudding aisle that don't need refrigeration. We take those with little pots of custard or cream when we are cold weather camping and always have an emergency portion for three somewhere in our camp food box.

Otherwise whatever we can buy locally, gu pots and green and blacks dark chocolate selection packs are staple camping desserts.

We used to make vast quantities of Angel Delight in washing up bowls on guide camp. To be eaten with shortbread fingers. Dyb dyb!

Mymouthgetsmeintrouble · 10/07/2017 16:52

Angel delight , rice pudding with a blob of jam ,tinned fruit with evap milk

SnugglySnerd · 10/07/2017 16:55

We take flapjacks with us as they don't need refrigeration and keep better than cake. They also do for breakfast in an emergency.

kittybiscuits · 10/07/2017 16:56

Waffles toast well!

Rumtopf · 10/07/2017 17:02

Campfire cones here too, they went down a storm on our most recent camping trip.

Grin at Flying. Actually put that instruction in just in case anyone who was reading it was like my DH. You're not him are you?

Skala123 · 10/07/2017 18:57

I've recently been introduced to camping doughnuts - jam or Nutella sandwich with white bread (no butter) cut into quarters then dipped in pancake mix. Fry in a pan and then roll in sugar - AMAZING!

MrsHathaway · 10/07/2017 19:18

We just have fruit, Frubes (powered cool box) and homemade cake. Er, and a million biscuits.

Flapjack per pp, ginger cake, chocolate brownie and fruit cake travel well. Anything that's fairly dense and moist.

TheoriginalLEM · 10/07/2017 19:23

Marking place - we usually just riast marshmallows so looking for inspiration

Synecdoche · 10/07/2017 19:24

Omg Skala that sounds amazing!

storminabuttercup · 11/07/2017 08:03

Grin Everyone I don't think I'm your husband!

EveryoneTalkAboutPopMusic · 12/07/2017 22:37

Oh that's good Smile. What did the DC's faces look like when yiu opened the Parcels? Smile

TheFlyingFauxPas · 12/07/2017 23:45

Ds didn't even bother 😞 his friend tried a bit bravely. I hate waste so manfully tried to eat mine but I've got a thing about textures!

PinotPony · 13/07/2017 13:59

We're camping this weekend and I'm going to try banana boats with chocolate, marshmallows and...RUM! Saw it on a Ray Mears video...
