We are borrowing equipment before committing to purchases. Can anyone recommend some camping sites in the West Midlands, that are slightly rural but have access to decent pubs and a place we can leave the car by the tent.

And can someone alleviate my fears that no one will break into the tent and kidnap our child?!

Bumping, and watching with interest...

West Midlands isn't my area, but have a look on Pitchup.com and use all the search filters that you fancy, and also look on UKCampsite.co.uk where you can search my map, or area, and they have very informative reviews from members.

I can't help you with you worry that no one will kidnap your child. Mine slept in a seperate tent since they were 9 and still no one has nabbed them,

Teatubetewn thank you, will have a look there. Trying local to see how we all get in! I know it's probably a ridiculous worry and I've never heard of it happening!

Kingsbury water park near Tamworth?
We stayed on the camping and caravan club site(But there were others around which would be cheaper). Which had a short walk to a pub. And a the water park has a massive playground and woodland walks.

Camped every holiday as a child none of us got stolen. Neither have my children been!

Isittheholidaysyet I didn't realise you could camp there, will have a look.

I can't sleep next to open windows incase I get stolen Blush it's stupid and not like I wouldn't wake up anyway!

We went the summer before last. The camping and caravan club site might be a little more expensive than others, but the facilities were good with a path under the motorway to the woods of the water park.

But we did notice a couple of other sites in the area as we drove around.

The other thing about campsites is that everyone trusts each other to a certain extent. We are all under a piece of material or in a flimsy tin box!
Of course you need to take basic care of your valuables, but you are going to leave the camping kit unattended when you go out (or go for a shower). It's normal to introduce yourselves casually to the people around you, and everyone keeps an eye out for each other. (Some people will want to make friends, others will stay private after a brief hello, just as in normal life.)
Many kids have a lot of freedom on campsites.

How old is your child?

You will be fine anyway. You can hear EVERYTHING. To keep toddlers from escaping , zip your zips to the top, out of reach.
