Shewee - any good?!!

Don't laugh! Grin This is a serious bit of research... So we're not going camping but we are doing a road trip around Canada in the summer and I and DD think a Shewee or similar "device" might come in very handy! There are various models available out there so I'd be grateful for any recommendations - ease of use a priority...! Thanks Smile

I tried one for when I was out running.
Couldn't use it without weeing down my leg. Nice

PopGoesTheWeaz · 23/04/2017 22:33

Following with interest. Id like for long hikes

GrinAndTonic · 23/04/2017 22:37

I've had one for years. I used it when backpacking and now take it with me on long car trips (very few public toilets or places to hide where I live) and on emergency deployments.

I have never wee'd on my myself.
I recommend a few practices in the shower before using it for real.
Oh, get the one with the extender pipe.

Battytwatty · 23/04/2017 22:44

I tried it at Glastonbury. There were separate loos where they gave you disposable Ones. Thought it was ace, really easy. I agree with PP try in the shower first and you'll soon get the hang of it. Glad you started this thread. I'll get one ordered to take with me to Glastonbury this year

I use a p-style. It's an open topped funnel, so no danger of it backing up and flowing backwards like the enclosed versions do. As long as you hold it firmly against your perineum it works brilliantly...i love mine!

3boysNeedABiggerKitchen · 24/04/2017 15:15

I have a sheewee, a brilliant device. Practice in the shower a few times, positioning of the 'catching bit' against your perineum is crucial. It is fab for camping and walking, I keep mine in the car.
The 4 boys in my life dissolve into peals of laughter when I use it, but it is so much better than squatting, who wants to bare their bum in freezing weather?!
Try it out, it is not hugely expensive and is very freeing!

3boysNeedABiggerKitchen · 24/04/2017 15:16

Oh and check the wind direction before using it outdoors...men learn this trick early on, nobody taught me!

Out2pasture · 24/04/2017 15:28

I live in Canada, plenty of long haul road trips why not use a rest room?
You know that they have toilet facilities at rest stops along the highways? Have toilet paper jik.

runner2 · 25/04/2017 12:12

Out2pasture, do you happen to live in BC? If so, can you tell me...how worried do I need to be (and I confess I am a bit of a worrier!) about....bears?!!

Poundland sell one if you want to try. I've tried that one and it worked great when I tried it naked but it was too flimsy when I was trying to work around pants/jeans etc.. so I've ordered a proper sheewee now which apparently is hard plastic unlike some others which are more like silicon

JugheadJones · 25/04/2017 12:33

I found it too tricky to use but can 100% recommend the bags of crystals that you wee into that turn your urine solid. They have a much bigger opening and you just chuck them in the bin when you're done.

runner2 · 25/04/2017 13:01

JugheadJones where do you get those?

I buy the TravelJohn ones off amazon but have used other brands in the past and they have all been good.

Mumsnut · 25/04/2017 13:48

yup travel john

Out2pasture · 25/04/2017 18:51

Yes I'm in BC. No bears in the cities. When we have guests visiting we never seem to see any but they are around.
Last fall while walking the dog about 8-9 pm one ran across the sidewalk. I'm only hiking with dh in the deep bush and he is packing bear spray and bells, but we walk in the bush almost daily. Dh keeps bees and we have an electric fence to keep the bears out (never had any lookers) and our big dog wears an electric collar for better control should we run into wildlife. Garbage bins always in the garage until pick up etc.
So although we don't see bears often we are very bear aware.

Hi again Out2pasture. I'm hoping to get out for a run most days while we're in BC which will be fine in Vancouver and Victoria, but do you think I shouldn't once we're heading up into the mountains? DH is very dismissive of my concerns about bear danger but from what you say I'm more right than he is.... Wink
