Camping with three year old and seven months old in may. Tent, no electric, no cold box because the baby stuff takes too much room. Have one ring burner. Wanting some new inspiration for food.

Breakfast: aldi choc chip brioche loaf, variety packs cereal, milk bought the previous day from shop (thinking may might be cold enough to have milk out of fridge?) scrambled eggs on buns.

Lunches and snacks , taking a few tins of soup or spaghetti, apples, bananas, carrot sticks, dried fruit, food bought when out or at local shop. Miso soup packets. Bacon butties.

Evenings, first night bolognaise defrosting from home with pasta, another jar of pasta sauce, omelettes with onion, pepper and cheese. Chicken tonight jar (chicken, tin sweetcorn, onion and baguette bought on the day)
Sausages, cousin cous and a bag of salad (bought locally)

Any more inspiration?

Wraps are great (with tin of tuna and mayonnaise, tinned sweetcorn) for lunches.

JiltedJohnsJulie · 31/03/2017 19:36

Thanks Barchester. Think we are ok for Rice Pudding. DS seems to be getting through about 56 tins a week due to being a growing teen Smile

winewolfhowls · 31/03/2017 19:48

I would bathe in rice pudding if I could. Fantastic comfort food, that's going on the list.
Off to Google lwwf things

Actually Jilted, I think that was the wrong one - this one is the one I buy.

I have just gone back to having a Waitrose delivery after a year of shopping elsewhere - this has reminded me to add them in for my Easter camping trip.

HighMountain · 31/03/2017 19:51

.

winewolfhowls · 31/03/2017 19:59

They have them in Asda, several have gone on my order along with m's sausage and instant hot chocolate and those three in one coffee sachets.

Steamed puddings and ambrosia custard Grin. Especially for out of season camping when a proper pudding is essential.

There are loads of puddings that don't need to be kept cold. Morrisons do a chocolate pudding with chocolate melting middle , the best or whatever that range is called that is divine.

Rice pudding with a dollop of jam wine - another essential.

thegoodnameshadgone · 31/03/2017 20:42

Throw away BBQ and hot dog sausages from Costco.

An excuse to have a pot noodle too.

BarchesterFlowers · 31/03/2017 22:09

This thread underlines why I could never low carb 😂.

pieceofpurplesky · 31/03/2017 22:21

Campfire stew!
Sausages
Onions
Peppers
Baked beans
Kidney beans
Chilli flakes
Served with chunks of Crusty bread

Always take pasta and jars of sauce, risotto or paella food in one pan

UnicornButtplug · 31/03/2017 22:31

Fajitas with a jar of salsa and a packet of fajita mix if you can buy chicken locally.

Hot dogs are a must!

Fried rice.

Tuna pasta with sweetcorn onion and mayo.

winewolfhowls · 31/03/2017 22:53

I'm hungry now reading all this. And I certainly add jam to my rice pud, although auto correct just tried to write jizz Blush Raspberry though, not strawberry.
Great suggestions from everyone, good job we have several trips planned to try it all out.

Get the pancake shaker bottles where you just add water. You can make savoury pancakes for dinners or breakfast or sweet ones for puddings.

I always take pesto when I camp. With pasta its a quick easy dinner on the first night.

llangennith · 31/03/2017 23:14

Buy tins or dried food. It's camping: whatever crap you feed them is ok. It's only for a few days. So long as they get some fruit and veg (albeit tinned) daily they'll survive. Actually you'll all survive on any food for a few days even no veg!

JiltedJohnsJulie · 01/04/2017 08:25

Fish and Chios on the last night is a must.

BarchesterFlowers · 01/04/2017 08:31

I thought that said Fish and Chinos Jilted Grin. DH hates fish and chips, there is always one.

JiltedJohnsJulie · 01/04/2017 08:43

Not sure I like the sound of fish and chinos, think I've put myself off! There is always one. Does he eat a pot noodle while you scoff your bounty from the chip shop?

winewolfhowls · 01/04/2017 08:54

Tins is a good idea in principle but when you've been up since five thirty with the wee ones and on your feet all day you just want something a bit more.... Comforting, substantial, just something more

winewolfhowls · 01/04/2017 08:55

Fish and chips for the win though

Keep the milk in a bucket of cold water, it'll keep it cooler. Top tip I learned from a Scout leader!

Whileweareonthesubject · 12/04/2017 17:31

A bit late to the party, but just noticed you are buying the three in one coffee sachets. I've tried several brands (I take them to hotel as I don't like the milk pots they supply) and IMO, the Kenco ones are far superior to any others. In fact, I think the Nescafe ones taste like mud! I usually have the 3in1, but at a push I can drink the 2in1.

twattock · 12/04/2017 20:43

Have you thought about cooking something like a casserole in a small pressure cooker? Stays sterile until you open it. Also filtered milk stays fresh for much longer then ordinary milk, again until opened.

IamRonnieBiggs · 12/04/2017 20:49

I would take a fabric cold bag - we used one last time and I was stunned how cold everything stayed - I got 2 great flat freezer packs you put in the freezer and just kept swopping them over in the communal freezer

If you fill it with good going it's the same as taking it in a plastic bag!

buckeejit · 12/04/2017 20:58

Make flapjacks before you go-the great MN recipe with condensed milk. I usually want to eat whatever is least effort to prepare. Take some salad dressing too

CoffeeMad18 · 13/04/2017 19:34

Buy a plain sponge slab. Aldi do the for about 80p cut up and spread with lemon curd, strawberry jam or Nutella etc whatever floats your boat and the serve with birds custard made from powder and hot water. Pudding is always a hit when camping.

Another meal is tin of stewing steak, tin of chopped tomatoes or passata and a couple of heaped teaspoons of curry paste. Heat together in one pan. Use microwave rice tipped into another pan heat through with an egg cup full of water and serve. So easy and really tasty.
