Summer holidays - how much would you expect to pay for campsite?

Have been offered use of a touring caravan over the summer, and just been looking at past threads for UK campsite recommendations. I was quite surprised at the prices per night, but they are lovely sites. How much do you budget for in the school summer holidays? TIA

I don't know about caravans, but we pay around £20 per night for 4 of us in a tent with no hook up.

Thanks surfermum. Any other campers about?

Yeah pitches for caravans with hook up do tend to be quite pricey particularly in the summer hols. I was quite surprised too, you think camping is cheap, well it still works out cheaper than a cottage.

I just looked at the wesite of the place we're going to in August and it's the same price per night for a caravan as a tent - £19, you would pay an extra £2.50 per night for hook up.

That's not bad SM. one of the places i looked at worked out at over £40 , £30 - £35 seems to be fairly usual.

depends how many facilities they have . I have paid £25 a night on a french site with a pool etc

I have paid £11 for a smashing site in Wales with a nice park of the kids, the hook up was 2.50 of the 11

That's true. This is a really small site, only 45 pitches and a toilet/washing up block. The cockerell that wakes you in the morning is thrown in free!

I frightened the life out of DH the toher day costing up a week in August at Wooda Park, Bude (as mentioned on here) and it was over £300 for 4 of us. Funnily enough I hadn't noticed the main pitch fee was for 2 adults not per adult so it was a big relief to find it's only about £160 inc 3yr old.

foxtrot · 02/03/2007 11:09

Buckets, Wooda looks nice, have you been before? For us it would be £33.50 per night. I'm slowly coming to terms with the cost Now to find my dream site...

We pay between about 10 and 20 pounds a night for large tent camping, family of 5. Most expensive tend to be the big caravan parks by the coast. Some of the cheap ones are the nicest (IMO, but we like wild and basic places).

I'm not bothered about having facilities (apart from a decent hot shower). I'd like to be able to walk/cycle to the beach/shops and not use the car too much.

No not been to Wooda before, someone recommended it on here and the photos are cunningly sunny and enticing aren't they?
I guess as kids get older it gets easier to go for the wilder cheaper sites, they can go off and have adventures, Famous Five style. My 2yr old is still trying to eat everything. (EVERYthing I tells ya!)
