I'll fear for my sanity in just a field, I'll need lots of stuff on site to get the big Ds's out of the tent!

This is my favourite site in Devon - loads to do, my kids loved it. I've never actually camped there, as my Dad lives a few miles away, but some friends had their caravan there & were impressed.

www.riverdart.co.uk Went 2 years ago and had a great time.

Sorry, had to dash out (school run). I recommend you look on www.ukcampsite.co.uk You can put your choice of site, county, area etc and you get the site's official website, a map and, best of all, user reviews. The Dart River one I sent was a great success. They have a few apartments in the main converted manor house but the rest is purely camping. A couple of areas are a bit sloping but the whole site is well maintained. There are on site wardens. One of the amenity blocks' showers erred on the tepid side, but the big plusses are the child friendly facilities. There's an on-site day-park with huge climbing structures, slides, rope nets and the river which is diverted into pools with sand beaches (and a pirate ship) and side streams. Though it sounds like it might only appeal to younger kids the teenagers we saw were all having a good time! Another advantage is proximity to Dartmoor itself (it's right on the edge) and a half hour drive to some superb beaches. The site does get busy with the inevitable noise factors but we didn't encounter many chav types at all! They allowed gazebos, too, 2 years ago, a real plus for us! Good luck.

LTH there's laods- do you have a preference ofr a side of devon?

manor farm in Seaton is very friendly- it has a small farm which the kids can help a bit on, and Seaton is a proper style Devon seaside town with trams and stuff

have a look on ukcampsite website for reviews- you can just put in an ara and they will give you lots of ideas

seriosuly consider manor farm though with the boys

Agree with Miljee that River Dart is great. We went last year and have booked to go again this year. It's got lots to do without being tacky. How old are your kids? There are lots of things for all ages but big kids - over 8 i think - can go canoeing or climing on a supervised trip with or without parents. This only happens in the summer though.

A group of us went last year and had a thoroughly relaxing time.
