It would probably help if I had an exact destination in mind. We're sort of looking Dorset/Somerset, but I could have my mind changed...

Want

Somewhere quiet, no noise after 11pm type thing, definitely rural
large pitches (we have a big tent) with electric
reasonable standard of facilities, hot showers, enough clean toilets etc
level pitches
family friendly

would like (but not essential)

childrens play area
swimming pool

do not want

to pay a fortune
evening entertainment either on site or within staggering home distance (fed up with being woken at 2am by drunk people making tea, or having the giggles)

We tend to use the site as a base and go out, so not that bothered about things to do there, although woods and walks would be nice. We're planning on going for 5/6 days (sunday to friday or monday to saturday, or whatever)

Anyone got the perfect place?

Pooh Cottage campsite near Budleigh Salterton in Devon. Its ticks all the all the want/would like boxes.

I'll try and find a link if I can but need to feed children first!

thanks. I've looked it up on UK Campsite . Have you stayed there feetheart? Did you have to do a Saturday start (which is what the web site says) and how did you find the showers etc? There are only three reviews on the UK Campsite and all were a bit iffy about that aspect, but happy with the site as a whole. I work until 1am Friday nights, so driving all that way on a Saturday is so not happening!

West Dorset Leisure park which is near West Bay. Lovely site very clean they have an indoor pool, childrens play area and a pub that does food/take away. We stayed in June 2005 and it was a gorgeous relaxing holiday.

How about Wood Farm near Lyme Regis?

Looks lovely and I know that Peachyclair has stayed there, might be worth CATing her?

feetheart · 07/02/2007 14:24

Yes, we have stayed there two or three times over the past few years as my sister lives nearby. Even on the w/e of the Sidmouth Folk Festival there was plenty of space and the pitches aren't really marked out so there is none of that trying to ram a huge tent into a small space (we have a Khyam XXL)
Don't think we have ever done a Saturday start so I don't know what they are on about there.

Showers are OK, we've used much worse on other sites. I might be a bit biased though because I'm just glad they are there, and hot! DD (aged about 2 then) threw up in bed one night - you know, the whole vomit in the hair thing. The previous camping trip had been in a field in the Lakes with just a standing pipe, God knows what we would have done if she had thrown up there

Its also great for star watching as there is very little light pollution.

Kloofs at Bexhill-on-Sea in East Sussex is great, but not really in the right area for you. However, the showers are FAB and free! There are woods/walks all around, beach a couple of miles away, small play area. Our dd LOVED it there. HTH

Thanks everyone, I'll check these out

feetheart - I might just email them then and check the whole 'saturday' thing.

hotandbothered - Kloofs is the first campsite we stayed at for a family holiday after we restarted camping - we actually went because it was an MN recommendation and we thought it was great. We're close enough though that we do a lot of day trips to that area so we want to go a bit further afield this time, but thanks anyway

Sandyballs in the Newforest is lovely - lots of great walks and tons of workshops for thekids - if you can get over the name!

PeachyClair · 08/02/2007 15:34

broadway farm at Cheddar? Seems to tick all your boxes.

And if you do we'll see you there!

PeachyClair · 08/02/2007 15:36

Ooh yes, wood farm is also excellent LOL

Can you tell we come from Somerset and tend to hang around down there LOL

Cheddar has a website, so does wood farm. Of the two I would say they are both equal; wood farm has an indoor pool, but cheddar ahs other things- you'll love both

Is this the Broadway one you mean? broadway house can't find Broadway Farm It sounds good, but at £32 pn I'm not sure we could afford it I need to work money out with Dh I think.
