Shall I buy a new tent that I don't really need?

I am so hankering after this tent.
Hypercamp Eldorado

cons;
It will come in a massive bag, won't it? The car is stuffed as it is.
No garage - if it comes home wet it will have to be draped in a room we use.
I bought a new tent two years ago. It I practical and adequate for our needs. I bought the awning / porch to go with it, as well.
It doesn't even have much living space.

pros
I really hanker after a canvas tent, and this would suit me much better than a bell tent. Stooping to go through a bell tent door all the time is not for me. Nor his having no living area. I love this tent.
It would be good if ever I do go camping in Southern Europe. (never have yet) . The coolness of the cotton, etc.
I could get a good tarp and set it up like those organised and stylish Dutch campers.
It seems very good value (less so as I don't actually need this tent, granted).
No one would go without food if I buy it, but my savings are supposed to be for my old age.

Does anyone know exactly how big the bag is?

I keep looking at it on the website.

Blu, we have in the past loaded up our estate car with a canoe, three bikes and a dog amongst other things, looked at the clearance on the wheel arch Shock, unloaded it and had to go away in the Landrover.

So .... have you bought it yet then??

We just use tarps cut to size under our tents, big old white tarps that I use for covering up my hay if I can't get it inside. Not pretty but we have them and they work.

I haven't bought it...yet.

I don't know if it will fit in the car...I really don't need it, I just like the idea of having the kind of lifestyle where I wander at will, one woman and her lovely tent.... DS and DP think I am bonkers in even considering it.

I only got to camp for 6 nights this year Sad.

dither...dither...hanker...

I still might do it!

I'll do it if you will Blu!

hillbilly · 19/09/2016 22:55

Just do it Blu. It's a beautiful tent and if I had space to dry it I would also be hankering after one :-)

One woman and her lovely tent will fit in the car Blu - forget the family Grin.

I justify all of my camping spend on the basis of school holidays being massively expensive in the UK. Even our stupidly expensive tents are only the cost of a cottage in Cornwall for two or three weeks in the summer.

I am considering buying a tent I definitely don't need after regretting selling one two years ago, DH didn't like it for many reasons. I am not sure why I listened to him because he didn't actually come with us when we used it.

UPDATE: I did get it Grin

And just before the Euro-tumble raised the price by £15, too!

Even in it's bag it looks fab, and not too monstrously big. Heavy though - I took the pole and peg bag out of the main bag to carry it out of the car.

Now I want a canvas tarp to go with it.

Grin
Blu · 24/10/2016 16:58

It's LOOKIING AT ME resentfully, because I have not gone camping this half term. It is a canvas act of accusation, rolled up in the corner of my study!

You could maybe have a little day camp somewhere, in a park? Or just unfold it and stroke it? And then plan where you're going to go with it first.

Blu · 06/01/2017 08:04

So, @hz , did you fall for an Alaska? Grin

It has less pegs than the Eldorado....

I still haven't put my new tent up. They supply the guys unattached and I need a time to make that a mini project, and sitting outdoors in Jan isn't it.

But I can't wait to try out my new tent.

Still dithering. I'm still slightly in denial about selling my campervan first. I am still a bit worried about how long it will take to put up. It's big change for us.

hillbilly · 06/01/2017 13:53

Well done Blu on your purchase! When will your first camp in it be? (we are going to glamp in Feb half term hopefully then proper camping at Easter).

Hello hz - are you selling your beloved Bongo???

I'm hankering after a smaller tent this year for when it's just me and the kids camping. Looking at Outwell Cape Coral which perfectly suits our needs.

Blu · 06/01/2017 21:22

I understand your dilemma, hz.

And if you do part with your Camper you need something which also ghastly soul / you love.

My understanding from UKCampsite is that the Alaska, like other pyramids, is very quick to put up. No pole threading. Peg out groundsheet, put in 3 piece frame, peg guys.

But I have not done it or seen it done.

Hillbilly, I think I will hold out til Easter. And even that is early for me, May Bank Hol has been my previous start of season. Having everything muddy, and dark early evenings put me off Feb half term.

'Has soul' not 'ghastly soul' LOL

The Cape Coral looks an excellent tent.
