Years ago when we went but in my experience they are all pretty good and put the British ones to shame. We used the Michelin green guide which lists just about everything that we needed to know. Think that we stayed at Granville-sur-mer for our first night, near to le Mont-St-Michel which was North of where you want to go but was good for us as it wasn't much of a drive from St Malo and the ferry. We then ploughed further south into the Dordogne and one year into the Loire.
If you haven't been to the area before I can recommend Carnac ( had sailing club here I seem to remember) and the run of beaches E and W of here. They are quite sheltered and although a little touristy still remain nice and are safe for children. Don't worry about the language, they all have enough english to get the essentials done, its in their interests! Don't know how helpful this has been but hope that you have a lovely time.

Jema, ask for a brochure from people like Canvas or Eurocamp, most also have some pitches for independent travellers and you can get an idea of the site facilities.

Having chosen the site the problem is then contacting them, but most I have used do have websites and most also have english speakers.

Carnac has great beaches, the best place to get info for independant travellers is Alan Rogers Alan Rogers Looking at this site this seems a good one Camping de Kervilor, not right on the beach, so slightly quieter than some.

Good luck

Hi I agree with Crunchie. I bought the alan rogers guide a few years ago. You can't go wrong with it. I does make me laugh cos i is so Englishman abroad in knee socks and kaki shorts but his recommendations are spot on.

Have just looked at the site for alan rogers guides and they look great, will order one asap.

We're doing 10 days touring in a camper van in Aug - anyone any tips on whether we should book all sites before leaving UK or can we just book a few nights ahead and leave our options open?

thanks every body,
cq, I've just been given a castel brochure as well, looks good- plus a contact name of a independant travel agent who has booked some friends holidays out of the castel , eurocamp , keycamp ..all the major chains, but saved them alot on the published brochure price, and the ferry (car with a large caravan) was a half of what I paid to take just my car over last summer, will check out then post details if any one else interested
