ring them?

Crunchie · 07/06/2004 13:41

I have just come back from a Eurocamp holiday and they are just getting their 2005 brochures out. If I were you I would wait, perhaps put £10 - £20 a week away (can you get a special holiday savings account?) and with 52 weeks to go at £10 a week you would have enough to pay for it (and more )

However I would be tempted to wait and book late to get some last minute deals. You maynot get the choice of all the campsites but you get a great deal, and if you have been a good girl and have saved £10 a week you will have spending money too. Our Whitsun week cost £237.50 for a week in a tent inc crossing!!

nutcracker · 07/06/2004 13:48

I did ring them Coddy, but i was put in a queue and then cut off .

That is a good idea Crunchie but I am hopeless at saving. If i know i've booked it i will put the money up to pay for it, but if I just try to save i won't do it.

Unless i give the money to my mom, as i know she wouldn't let me have it back no matter how broke i am

they cut you off nut? bastards

There you go then, £10 a week to your mum

The last few years we've booked our Keycamp holiday as soon as we've got back from that years' one - and I couldn't get my 1st choice of site/dates/mobile home.

When I asked how this can happen considering I picked up a Keycamp brochure whilst in France (before they were in the Travel Agents) - they explained that you can ring and ask them to "reserve" the booking before the brochure comes out. In many cases, people reserve about 15/18 months prior to going!!

(Getting all excited now as we've just paid our KC holiday - always get in the holiday spirit now _

what is the best keycamp site in France anyone? fancy a tent holiday.I need it to be safe enough for a 2 y.o (no rivers bla bla) and enough to keep 2 a 6 and 7 y.o busy

Slinky · 07/06/2004 16:25

You can fly to various airports (and hire bedlinen on some sites) but you'd need to transfer yourselves from the airport to the campsite - not sure on taxi costs etc. My DHs boss did a Keycamp "fly-drive" last summer but hired a car from the airport.

Crunchie · 07/06/2004 16:29

This page could be useful here This shows airports that are local. The train is another route, Eurostar to Lille/Paris and then change. This only problem with this is the amount of luggage you want to lug around. Since you are self catering there is a fair amount of stuff to take, although all the basics are there, and you can hire sheets. You need sleeping bags/duvets as well as towels. The food you could buy in the local supermarket, so it could be done.

Blankets/pillows are provided but you need to supply sheets and pillow cases.

All kitchen equipment is provided - you need to bring tea towels/bath/beach towels etc.

On the Keycamp website (www.keycamp.co.uk) you can read the complete inventory for mobile homes/tents.

We haven't stayed in a Keycamp tent, but had a quick nosy whilst there. Very spacious and well-equipped.

We're going with Keycamp this year, but have been toying with the idea of a Villa holiday in Menorca for next year. This suggestion has not been well received by the kids - they absolutely have the best time going to France and want to carry on doing this. I think DD1 knows she has far more freedom on a Keycamp-type holiday then she would staying in a Villa - also they all like to make new friends, whereas a Villa would be just them 3.

I've only been to Brittany (x2) and then this year we're off to Loire region. The Brittany site we stayed at was very good, - walk to beach, kids clubs, swimming pools with slides. Medium sized site (approx 450 pitches).

The one we're going to this year is a small site (highly recommended by my friends and my friends FIL who happens to be my neighbour - and he's very fussy )

I don't think there is a BEST site - as it depends on what you're looking for/site sizes - whether you prefer more lively/quieter etc. The best thing would be to go onto the Keycamp site - and then you can fill in a "checklist" of your requirements and it will throw back recommended sites.

happycat · 07/06/2004 17:23

Thanks slinky I will be booking for next year soon and wanted some first hand recomendations.

Crunchie · 07/06/2004 17:23

Slinky it was you who stayed in the benodet site wasn't it? Which Loire site are you going to?

codswallop · 07/06/2004 17:28

we ar eoff to the bonne anse plage in royan on two peoples reocmmendation
longer drive but better weather

Slinky · 07/06/2004 17:42

Crunchie

Yep we stayed at the Benodet site twice - this year we're off to the E'tang de la Breche in Saumur.

If we do stick with Keycamp for next year, we may do a "fly-drive" down South (really can't cope on long car journeys).

Coddy - couldn't beat the weather last year - we were in France during their 2-week August heatwave - swimming in the sea at 9.00pm as it was just cool enough then. Kids clubs were rescheduled to 5pm rather than 3pm as it was far too hot to be running around.

Actually hoping for cooler weather this year (mid 20s would be nice) as I found 40 degs and Keycamp caravans do not mix - unless you manage to get air-conditioned
