We are planning an extended camping holiday this summer in Northern Europe / Scandinavia. We are in the process of refining our kit so that repeated pitching / striking camp doesn't become a massive pain in the arse.

Step one was the purchase of a quechua pop up tent which was road tested successfully this weekend Smile

Step 2 is where hopefully you can help. I'm looking for portable storage for our kitchen stuff so that we can lift out of our car ready to go. And I'm not sure that what I want actually exists.

One option is a plastic crate, like these really useful boxes. www.reallyusefulstorageboxes.co.uk/Mobile/MBSCCatalog.asp?gclid=Cj0KEQjwmpW6BRCf5sXp59%5FU%5FssBEiQAGCV9GsvzWXvFlDP7ACo52tJZK4SueBDsLASfA6bvBoRGXsoaAq5w8P8HAQ. Would be perfect to keep everything together for transport and easy to get in and out of the car but I could see it being a bit of a rummage to find what we're looking for, especially for the smaller bits and pieces. They do plastic inserts for the boxes which I'd thought would get round this but don't seem to do them for the larger boxes that we'd need.

Another option would be to buy a smaller camping cupboard, like this one or similar: m.gooutdoors.co.uk/hi-gear-elite-concertina-cupboard-p194381 Which would be great to keep everything organised but I'm worried it would be difficult to lift in and out of the car and wouldn't be robust enough to transport stuff (this looked to be one of the more robust ones I've found).

Basically the convenience of the cupboard but the strength of the crate would be ideal.

Any suggestions / comments will be very gratefully received!

Forgot I have a folding Colander in the main bit too. If that came out there would be room for the big plastic pot with cutlery / utensils in...

That looks amazing. Where did u get it?

AnnPerkins · 11/06/2016 10:58

That is just brilliant. I think you've started something here Yellow, it could revolutionise camping kitchens, definitely the best camping gadget I've seen since that glass-holder on a spike.

Does it take up much room in your car, compared to, say, a double sim rolled up?

profpoopsnagle · 11/06/2016 13:31

That looks ace! I like the little tables on the side and the cantilever bit as when in situ, you have a little bit more space to use as a kitchen.

Sorry, failed to read thread properly!

I got it from go outdoors. It's also available on amazon but £10 more expensive. Search tfgear Workstation.

In terms of how much space it's definitely smaller than my 40L iceytek. Packed, worn the stuff I put in, it's 45x44x42cm (including legs and front pocket, pocket only 29x26x7 so stuff can be packed round that). With legs taken off it's 42x44x32.

So compared to sims I would say in you stacked 2 single sims on top of 2 more single sims, it would be roughly 2/3 the size. With 4 feet 20cm long that can be packed round stuff. Hope that helps!

Worn = with
In (3rd paragraph) = if

Tables are tiny -18x16cm. Big enough for gin though!

I'm looking at something like this
www.kathmandu.com.au/maison-double-cupboard-slate-1.html?gclid=CjwKEAjw7qi7BRCvsr3N58GvsTkSJAA3UzLvy9JNyoA8Patdq8279k5puPNzCyzwsF6kvOoUSzf5MBoCBeHw_wcB

My plan is to then find boxes that fit into it. One for non perishable food, one for cooking gear, stove, fuel etc, one for perishable food, one for the washign up and stuff.

Pengweng · 23/06/2016 14:26

Ooh I am very impressed! This might be the answer to my kitchen camp problems too.

TheChatsPyjamas · 13/08/2018 09:12

@YellowDinosaur - how did this work out for your trip?

JessBradleyTheBusStopWanker · 19/08/2018 15:08

I stumbled across this by accident and have been looking for something similar. I think I am going to go with this

www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Stanley-Mobile-Work-Center-Tool-Box-Chest-Trolley-Wheels-Storage-NEW-STA180151/222691207760?epid=9011018539&hash=item33d96e2a50:g:y2YAAOSw4nhZ7xot

Should fit all plates/cutlery/kitchen equipment and my flat griddle as well as the miscellaneous bits like matches/fire starters/bin bags. There is 6 of us and im disabled so going camping in one car is very very difficult. I find that good storage is key and this should really help us out AND make set up super quick and easy.
