Last year you were looking at a table and benches type arrangement, with cushions to eat at. Did you get one? if so where from, if not can you remember who made it and where we saw it?

do you go camping? my friend is trying to get me to go camping this year i have 3 boys 5-2 and newborn. i really dont know how i would cope with the newborn, dont think he'll be ready for baked beans by then!!

PeachyClair · 13/01/2007 20:33

That's exactrly it yes

didn't buy it, did test it (we got one without chairs built in due to family size) and ie=t was excellent, very sturdy compared to the others

Luce. Bugger off Love

Camping with a newborn now- ask me in a few years LOL if Dh complies! But TBH its well known to be good, there's decent baby sleeping abgs availanble and at least the little ones STAY PUT. Modern tents are relatively snug too, if they're decent.

Any mroe for Peachy's camoing surgery? LOL

kittypants · 13/01/2007 20:34

camping with little ones is great themumma!

Lucycat · 13/01/2007 22:42

you know I love you peachy!

shall I get one and make you ?

OP posts:
Lucycat · 13/01/2007 22:44

themumma - tbh the newborn would be a cinch, it's the 2 year old that would drive you up the wall - as a family holiday though I can't recommend it highly enough.

Peachy - actually, can I pick your camping brain.... good sites (N Wales, Lakes & around) where you don't have to pre-book but are peaceful, have decent loos & nice scenery

PeachyClair · 14/01/2007 10:44

Whizz, have you looked up shell island camping on the internet? Supposed to be excellent, we haven't done much in that area yet though.

Can hugely recommend the camping and caravan site at Newquay (the Welsh one, in cardigan bay).

If youn like shorter notice, I would suggest that joining the camping and caravan club is a must, £35 is well worth it we've found.

Word of ewarning tho: it used to be you could camp anywhere with no notice. Camoing is (temporarily? who know?) trendy atm, and so it is getting ahrder to do that. I find booking a framework of trips early where I want to go helpful, and then we fill it in as best we can with shorter notice ones, if we cannot get a booking we've still not really lost much then.

HTH

PeachyClair · 14/01/2007 10:44

(Oh and camping and caravan sites meet the nice scenery / loos criteria bang on)

Whizzz · 14/01/2007 18:21

Thanks Peachy - Shell island looks worth investigating

Lucycat · 14/01/2007 18:28

Shell island is lovely!!

quite exposed, so pack those Delta pegs and it can be a bit of a hike to the loos if you find a good spot.

There are some photos of the view from Shell island towards Porthmadog across Tremadog Bay Here they were taken last Whit.

Also one of dh in the sand dunes!

oh and our cat too!!

I should add, you camp just behind those dunes - if you can get hold of Nemo, she went there last year so might have some good tips for you!

The National Trust campsites in the Lakes - Langdale Valley just north of Ambleside or Wasdale Head are fantastic - scenery amazing and loos pretty decent. In the langdales, there's a family field which is pretty spacious. You can't book, but we went MAyday weekend last year and got a space (we arrived about 8pm - it was full by about 8.30)

Also the camping and caravanning site in Keswick is great - on the banks of Derwent water... but I think you would have to book that one

There's also a good one in Hawkshead - not hugely scenic but very handy - can't remember the name of it and you do have to book

Whizzz · 14/01/2007 18:36

we are totally novices when it comes to camping, so all tips gratefully received. We are just looking for nice places to go for weekends on the spur of the moment when the weather gets better

worzella · 14/01/2007 18:53

There's loads of campsites in the peak district - near Ashbourne and the Tissington Trail (old railway line , now a bike/walking track) . Good ones include Rivendale, Highfields and Collow Top.

worzella · 14/01/2007 18:54

Sorry - Callow Top

PeachyClair · 14/01/2007 19:10

Its worth getting the caping membership, because it comes iwth a huge site book- not just the big sites but hundreds upon hundreds of accredited sites too. I think they said you make your membership back on site fees in 5 nights.

Lucycat · 14/01/2007 19:26

does no-one like my photos of Shell Island?

OP posts:
Whizzz · 14/01/2007 19:28
