Cobb dome extension and griddle?

I have a Cobb and I'd like to be able to roast a whole chicken in it. Does anybody have the dome extension that you can use to roast a chicken vertically? I was also thinking of getting the griddle but I don't know if it would be a useful addition because I already have the grill plate that came with the Cobb. Any opinions either way?

How big are your chickens? i have a Cobb and have managed a fairly large roast chicken several times. What i do though is put it on the rack on top of a layer of bay leaves (or celery sticks and or sliced onions,. lemon slices) which kind of insulates it , and then put more bay leaves , other fresh herbs/ or veg as above on top .(sometimes bacon slices also) I also squish it it down a bit and ram the lid on .. yes it is tight fit , but you can get the lid on and the layer of leaves / veg/ bacon stops it burning or sticking.. I also do the same technique with lamb . pork point etc .. one of my favourites is leg of lamb inthe Cobb. but you either have to get one that fits or saw the bone off a bit , ( lamb shoulder is easier though )..

I havent tried the griddle , it seems to me that a cobb is probably better for slower cooking..

I'm not trying to cook huge chickens but I haven't had any success with the ones I have tried. I am using the Lokkii version of cobblestones, and find that by the time I have waited 20 mins after lighting them, I don't have enough time to cook a chicken thoroughly. I am hoping to get some heat beads, which apparently last longer. I need to experiment with normal charcoal too.

How many lokkiii are you using? I know we have cooked chickens, but I think using two bricks. We may have spatch cocked the chicken as well?

I am just using one brick. I don't think I would be able to layer two, and if I did one after the other I would need to wait 20 mins in the middle of cooking. I have a supply of Lokkii that I bought in Home Bargains before they stopped doing them, but I need to try and get to grips with charcoal before my supply runs out. The cobblestones are way too expensive. Have you got a current source for Lokkii, Monkey?
