We have bought a tent. I have been caravanning as a child but never paid attention to the boring bits like how everything worked.

We are starting small this weekend, one night, no cooking, we will go out for tea. I think I need a hook up though to boil a kettle for dd's bottle.

Do I need something like this? Power Unit it says it is splash proof but not waterproof, does that mean bringing it in if it rains?

We have practiced putting the tent up in my parents garden, I'm a bit scared of doing it with an audience!

Yes that's it. Also useful for electric fan heaters. (Loves electric fan)

The cable is water proof and survived a deluge in the lakes. The plug bit lives in the tent. As with all electric plugs they need keeping out of water.

Wouldn't worry bout putting the tent up on public. We did the first time til we realised there were far more entertaining campers about!

Ah okay, so it's common sense (don't chuck a drink on the plugs) rather than a delicate wire!

I have no idea how everything is going to fit in the car as well. I'm not even suggesting a heater to DH, he would jettison clothes to fit it in!

Some tents (esp the ones with sewn in ground sheets) have a little zipper, normally by the door which you can put the cable through.

Oh they love squashing everything in the car. I would jettison clothes for a heater. We never wear half of what we take. I'm getting better at being realistic. Mind you I have 3 boys who happily won't wash or change.
