Spanish campsite with waterpark

Last year we went to this campsite www.franceloc.co.uk/campsite-france-midi_pyrenees-duravel-EN.html it was great but the weather was still dodgy (we went in late August).

So I'm starting to price up Spain for next year (£1000 return ferry Shock.

Can anyone recommend a similar site in Spain please? The kids would happily spend their whole holiday in the pool and on the waterslides.

I've been looking in the Madrid area as I read that Northern Spain can still be a bit wet in the summer.

Thanks.

Having googled I can see that the site we stayed at last year wasn't anything near a waterpark!

So any Spanish site with mere water slides would be fine! Grin

We stayed here at Sanguli, and it was great. Right opposite the beach, station so day trip to Barcelona very easy, Portavengura Theme Park and Water park in same town.

La marina near alicante has a fantastic water park, haven't camped there though so can't vouch for the camping....

Thanks for your suggestions! Still can't decide whether to go to the Dordogne in France and risk dodgy whether (rained last 2 times we've been) or pay a bit more to go to Spain...

Drive to Soain ( we did it with an overnight stop) and stay in the Dordogne for a few nights en route?

HolidayHeidi · 15/08/2015 11:48

Amour you will get I think 30% off ferry price by joining the frequent traveller club. Plus you get meal vouchers free day cabins etc. not sure if that helps influence decision.

Have you got a link for that holidayheidi ?

We are in the Jura in France at the moment and the weather is fabulous, so do consider south eastern france as a possibility if the ferry cost to Spain is too high. We made it down here from calais in one long 6 hour drive at night, stayed in a hotel overnight and then found a campsite. We have had one and a half days of rain and otherwise lovely sunshine. There are plenty of sites with waterslides (we are on a small one). There is also canoeing, riding, sailing, little boats to hire and we have had a trip to Switzerland. The whole area is really quiet too compared with the west coast of France where we usually go.

Northern Spain can be very wet (we experienced relentless rain camping in Mundaka one year and had to drive south to get away from it) so it probably is worth heading a fair way south if you do go there.

millimat · 27/08/2015 22:07

Hahafrozen, we were in the Jura this time last year. Beautiful area, but horrendous weather. It was cold and rainy to the point I wanted to come home Sad. So sorry I can't return there!

FrozenAteMyDaughter · 27/08/2015 22:13

Oh what a shame millimat. Sorry to hear that.

Mind you, good to know as we were planning to come back next year it has been so good. Might be a bit more circumspect now. Maybe just book the ferry again and choose our area according to the forecast.

Perhaps stick to the Spain plan OP. Although Italy is another option if you can stand the drive.

millimat · 28/08/2015 08:36

Where in the jura are you? I feel like we did not get to explore the area as properly as we would have liked due to the weather. To be fair, most of eastern France was the same, but we got the worst of it.

FrozenAteMyDaughter · 28/08/2015 22:33

We are near Clairvaux Les Lacs if you know it? Really lovely and the nearby lakes are gorgeous. Loads to do too. Unfortunately not so much in the rain admittedly. We used the rainy days to drive round and work out what to do once the sun came out. We were lucky though as it has been lovely since and there is hardly anyone here at the moment either which is a good thing or bad thing depending on your point of view. We like it.

The area is definitely worth a second chance if you have the opportunity but we had the luxury this time of not booking and simply checking weather apps a few days in advance. Not always so easy to do I guess.

millimat · 30/08/2015 22:50

We stayed at Clairvaux too, on the yelloh site. Site itself was great, though the pools (esp the indoor one!) were cold which didn't help in the bad weather.
Loved the restaurant at the top of the hill, next to little fountains? Children loved the lake and the high rupees course close by. Have you been to the waterfalls?

millimat · 30/08/2015 22:50

Rupees??? Ropes!!

FrozenAteMyDaughter · 30/08/2015 23:41

No actually we didn't get to the waterfalls. Loved the lakes though, boating and canoeing on the Ain river. Was the restaurant the Regardoir? If so we were there last night and the views were amazing. DD is a bit young for the ropes atm but we will be going back next year assuming the forecast is ok as there is just so much to do. Very sad to leave today. We stayed in a smaller campsite as we are a bit off Yelloh at the moment (they are usually our go to campsites) after a bad experience earlier in the summer. Luckily the site we chose did have a heated indoor pool as well as outdoor ones with slides. We really needed the heated one the first couple of days as it was chilly and wet but it has been fine since.

I must admit though, I wouldn't fancy stating in the area in a sustained period of bad weather. There is not a lot to do and it could get very depressing.

Btw, not stalking but I saw on another thread you are considering Mathevies. We stayed a couple of years ago. It is a lovely site. Particularly good I think if your children are young as you can sit outside the bar and watch them in the playground. Maybe less good for teenagers though. But then, the area is great.

millimat · 31/08/2015 16:28

I hadn't realised how close Mathevies was to where we stayed this year, so won't be going there. Looking out for other recommendations though!

FrozenAteMyDaughter · 02/09/2015 10:31

Well, if you like Yelloh sites, I would recommend Les Tournels right down on the Med coast near St Tropez. We loved it there last year.

We also liked Camping L'arbre d'Or on a lake close to Biscarosse in a place called Parentis en Born earlier this year. No waterslides or that much in the way of children's entertainment, but very French site with only a few English families when we were there. DD loved it there and made friends quickly (French and English) and you are close to the lake with watersports and the Atlantic coast at Biscarosse or Mimizan (both are a drive away though). Parentis isn't huge but is a cyclable distance and has a couple of nice restaurants. There is also a big supermarket a short cycle or drive from the campsite.

I won't recommend our site in the Jura, because although we liked it, you already know all about the area!
