I need to find a basic lamp that is not too bright we can leave on all night to stop littlie getting scared. Any ideas?

We used to use a couple of Ikea Spoka lights for DS2. They give off a gentle glow and are rechargeable. Its been a few years (DS2 is now 11) but 1 charge would last a couple of nights.

Sorry, I should gave been clear - we only used one light but had more than one for longer trips.

We use the solar garden lights you can get anywhere- but ours came from [http://www.wilko.com/garden-lights-and-lighting/wilko-garden-solar-light-marker/invt/0329131 here]. Recharge in the day and use at night. Gives off enough light as a nightlight would.

DD had a wind up torch, that she could use if she needed it.

lavendersun · 01/07/2015 07:27

We used to use a string of 20 solar coloured fairy lights down the centre pole. They had usually run out by morning - not too bright a light. We don't use bedrooms though ... all in the one 'room'.

DH used to worry that we looked like glampers Grin.

DD now hangs this by a little ring on the tent wall by her bed when we are outside drinking wine in the evenings if she goes to bed.

Solar lights are what we use.

PartyFops · 01/07/2015 21:46

So do the solar lights then run out by sunrise, I have tried really hard to make dd's tent as dark as possible, and she needs some kind of night light but I don't want her to wake up too early. She's 4 and like a duracell bunny!

Callmecordelia · 02/07/2015 06:55

Ours do, although they last most of the night after a day's charge, even when it is cloudy - they also don't have a switch as such, they come on when the light level drops, and I imagine that the reverse is true although I haven't tested it.

Callmecordelia · 02/07/2015 07:02

Here's a picture from the inside of my tent, while we're watching something on the laptop. There are four solar light strings, one on each of the living room beams, and two outside wound round the guy ropes, over the door and across the canopy. You can see the ones on the beams through the window of the bedroom doors, so if DD wakes she can see a reassuring light, but it's not right there close to her.

We take glow sticks. I also have an irrational fear of being seen as a glamper.

lavendersun · 02/07/2015 07:17

We have glow sticks too Whoknows, less so now though (9) and share your fear!!

The lamp I linked to above is great because it is quite dimmable, not sure how much though, will check if I remember, as we are past the night light stage.

DD uses it to read when we are outside, dimming it if she wants to go to sleep but then we turn it off.

clmustard · 05/07/2015 12:26

Thank you. We got some solar string lights and some of the little garden lights suggested up thread. Tried them out last night and they were brilliant!

HexBramble · 06/07/2015 19:35

SalomeD - what do you place them on?
