Basic campsite by the beach

I've just worked out that I can take the 4 dcs away camping the second weekend in August - yippee Grin

Wondering if anyone had any recommendations for a cheap basic campsite within a short walk of a beach - not wanting anything fancy - just a toilet block and showers, no ehc required!

Quite happy with a field in the middle of nowhere (but a pub within walking distance would be a bonus!)

South west coast or wales are within reach for us (live in the Cotswolds)

Tia Thanks

I haven't been but Mount Folly Farm seems to fulfil your wishes. The beach there is beautiful with life guards, good for body boarding etc. Place like Salcombe and Totnes are nearby. Not sure about pub but village is pretty nearby i think.

Have a look at the Camping Unplugged collection of sites.

Not within your geographical spec, but I believe Waxham sands in Norfolk is right on the beach and it is a lovely stretch of coast (haven't been to the campsite).

The Caravan Club Norman's Bay site near Eastbourne has it's own beach - but it is pebbly, and not a 'wild' sort of site, as CC sites tend not to be.

Good point actually Blu Camping Unplugged have a new campsite White Meadow (opened last year at Lepe near Southampton , its roughly a mile walk to the beach but they are opening another right next to the beach also at Lepe this summer - possibly August?

Excellent - would love to hear what it like when you get back - if you remember and have the chance do update us. :-)

Aberafon, Gyrn Gof, Caernarfon.

DH took ds there in half term and they loved it. You can have fires on the beach. He said it was beautiful.

Go on coolcamping.com, search North Wales and it's the first one that comes up.

You need to go to crackington haven nr Bude in Cornwall, campsite is 2 minutes walk from beach surrounding by cliffs you can walk up in a secluded bay, campsite is a small field with portaloos provided and cold showers in the next field but it is £5 a night for adults and £2.50 for children. We go every year and the bunch of people we go with have been going 20 to 30.

Well we have just got back from a fantastic week at Mount Folly Farm!

Lovely quiet site - no marked pitches but 4 fields to choose from - some flatter than others Wink We pitched in paddock 3 and the top of the hill with a stunning view of the sea.

Farmer John was lovely - drove round morning and night to check everyone was ok and have a chat. Wealth of information re local services etc, including where to go to get the tyre fixed I burst on the VERY narrow busy road down to the campsite!

Toilets and showers were very basic (think mobile huts/ shipping containers) but toilet paper supplied constantly and loads of hot water - 7mins for £1. No hot water washing up area but we just boiled water at the tent for that.

Camping fees were really cheap - £72 for 6 nights camping for me and 4dcs Shock

Bigbury on sea and the beach were only 1/4 mile walk over the fields and the beach was very clean with lifeguards. No pub as such but the Bay View Cafe does fantastic reasonably priced food.

Only downside is the nearest general store is 2 miles away along a very narrow road and not safe to walk so it's the car instead. The shop does make deliveries every morning to the village but never quite got organised for that!

We will def be back to this campsite and many thanks to the pp who told us about it!

A bit late as I know you have already been away but somewhere to try next year is Cae Du, near Tywyn. Basic but clean and right onto the beach!

xx

Excellent, so glad you enjoyed it. A decent basic site near a beach that allows campfires is a rare beast - believe me, I've spent a long time looking!
