Poundland has a range of camping stuff in their shops as well.

TwoLeftSocks · 20/06/2015 22:15

Bottle opener / corkscrew.
Insect repellent.

TwoLeftSocks · 20/06/2015 22:16

A woolly hat.

I did one recently I put in a fab camping handbook pocket guide from Amazon.
County walking magazine
A head torch
A tiny roll up towel
Walking socks
Camping cutlery
Other bits and bobs from Sports direct. They had some bargains. I wouldn't have thought of looking there.

lilyloo · 20/06/2015 22:22

Some warm socks

TwoLeftSocks · 20/06/2015 22:27

A lighter or six. I keep just trying to think of things I could never find and were a real pain to do without last weekend.

summerlovingliz · 20/06/2015 22:32

Those Turkish towels hammam I think they're called from Amazon.
M and S tinned food to serve with packets of ready cooked rice.

expatinscotland · 20/06/2015 23:55

Microfibre towel for the showers. Definitely M&S tinned meats. Solar lights/lantern.

Behooven · 20/06/2015 23:55

Midge net! Cheap as chips and folds up teeny for packing.

RandomHouseRules · 20/06/2015 23:56

The cool camping cookbook

RumAppleGinger · 20/06/2015 23:57

Skin So Soft from Avon, best midgie repellent known to man.

A spork www.amazon.co.uk/gp/aw/d/B0024M8WRA/ref=mp_s_a_1_4?qid=1434840936&sr=8-4&pi=AC_SX110_SY165&keywords=spork&dpPl=1&dpID=212w5WN2o0L&ref=plSrch

A bag of marshmallows.

lavendersun · 21/06/2015 06:32

Uco candle lanterns are very lovely - you could get a mini one for £15 - maybe cheaper if you shop around.

Not terribly practical really but very pretty and the light they produce is lovely.

TwoLeftSocks · 21/06/2015 09:07

Ooh, I'd forgotten about Skin So Soft, brilliant stuff. Off to order some.

Girlscout1910 · 21/06/2015 12:38

My girls did similar for my husband's Father's Day present. The 99p shop was great. Torch, chopping boards, tin opener, cork screw, matches, coffee bags, cutlery, tongs, wooden spoons.

TheFutureSupremeRulersMum · 21/06/2015 20:25

Definitely headtorch and microfibre towel. Telescopic fork for toasting marshmallows. The fluffy bed socks are an inspired suggestion above. Maybe a hot water bottle. Maybe a collapsible water bottle

FrozenAteMyDaughter · 22/06/2015 11:38

Those collapsible water bottles are a great idea and they sell them in M&S shops too if you need one in a hurry.

If you have time and are near a LIDL, these look like they might be a cost effective alternative to a hammam towel: www.lidl.co.uk/en/our-offers-2491.htm?action=showDetail&id=24577&ar=1

The 99p shop are currently doing a string hammock in their camping gear - don't know how good it would be but quite fun.

A packet of butchers' hooks are a good idea too - v useful for hanging things on in and out of the tent (got that idea from Blu I think)...

A string of fairy lights if she may be a closet glamper maybe?

One of these: www.halfords.com/motoring-travel/camping-caravanning/camping-equipment/yellowstone-pack-away-silicone-cups. Four collapsible silicon cups with handles for tea in their own carry bag - what's not to like?

Also this flameless cooker looks cool: www.halfords.com/motoring-travel/camping-caravanning/camping-equipment/yellowstone-flameless-cookset

Sticking with the collapsible theme, has anyone suggested a collapsible kettle? www.halfords.com/motoring-travel/camping-caravanning/camping-equipment/vacanza-by-outwell-smart-kettle. They come in other colours if you search a bit too.

Blu · 22/06/2015 15:26

Is she wild camper / campfire type of camper? If so I recommend a granpa's toasting fork which turns any stick into a toasting fork for toast, marshmallows or sausages over a fire. Though you could just use the stick for marshmallows, to be fair.

On the lighter advice below: you need a turbo-flame style lighter, not an ordinary bic / cigarette type lighter - you can point it horizontally at your cooker, BBQ, fire, etc without burning your fingers.

Yes, I am the butchers hook advocate - especially for hanging over the top of shower cubicle doors when there are never enough hooks, but also from a line hung between trees or whatever.

Blu · 22/06/2015 15:31

And I love these £3 lights: you can stand them up, hang them from an overhead hook, or tree, and I have even threaded one through my pyjama top buttons as a reading light here very light to carry.

FrozenAteMyDaughter · 22/06/2015 16:30

These lights are good too: www.decathlon.co.uk/clic-camp-tent-pack-id_8300639.html. That is the tent pack with a remote control for added laziness, and there is also a hiking pack which allows you to put the lights on a headband to turn them from a tent light into a headtorch - very useful. We have a couple of them and they do throw out a decent light.

Although I must admit, I do like those Vango ones.

Blu · 22/06/2015 18:18

I saw those lights on Decathlon and couldn't make head nor tail of what it was they did. Plus they seemed pricey, especially given I couldn't work out how to use them.Blush

With your explanation they seem a lot more tempting!
