We're taking DD who is 1 on her first ever camping trip today. It's colder than I was hoping and I'm worried about keeping her warm enough at night.
Planning for her to wear a vest, fleece sleepsuit and 2.5 tog gro bag plus a blanket. Do you think she'll need anything else? She will not keep a hat on!

You can "double bag" her at night. Or do you have a pram cosy toes with a hood? We've used that on top if everything else.

Good idea, think I'll take an extra gro bag just in case!

You could take a hoodie to put over the top of everything. Use the hood too. I found it easier to have a dc in with me in fact. We were all warmer like that and slept better. Have fun!

Hot water bottle?

RhubarbCrumbled · 26/05/2015 09:00

Definitely double bag! The 2.5 tog won't be enough bitter experience of a very cold baby one night so have that with a fleece onesie or a cosy toes or baby sleeping bag.

The littlest usually still ends up sleeping in with me for warmth and he's 2.5 now.

Hot water bottle! Why didn't I think of that?!

Definitely use a hoodie - so much heat escapes from the head at night and if she takes it off you can put it back on once she is asleep. DD used to sleep between us from about that age too and it does make a big difference to how warm they are.

Bring a few blankets too so you can add or take away depending how the night feels.

Thanks for all your tips. DD loved camping and slept soundly in her fleecie sleepsuit, 2 sleeping bags and fleece zipped over the top! She didn't need the hot water bottle in the end but I was very grateful we took it as I was frozen!
The other thing I've learnt is that Weetabix is not a sensible breakfast for a one year old in a tent - we have cleaning to do!!

Plain or choc chip brioches all the way in tents. They serve the dual purpose of allowing you to give hungry children something to eat without getting out of your sleeping bag if you have had the foresight to put them near you the night before, and also not creating much in the way of mess. Perfect.

Glad you and she enjoyed your trip.
