Recommendations for camping stove / cooking stuff

Hi

Have camped before but inly bought my first tent last year and now need to buy all the cooking equipment etc. Single parent so just me and 5 yr old DS so just need easy, practical and not too big (storage space is an issue at home).

So far have just used disposable BBQ and fish & chips!! but would like a cup of tea and simple meals (am also following thread on best camping meals!)

Any recommendations for brands or styles? What is essential and what is née to have??

Rocket stove?

I have a little single burner gas stove for cups of tea, a double burner for meals, and a portable barrel bbq for anything more adventurous.

The single burner takes little gas cartridges and the double uses a larger gas bottles. A £10 cartridge will do morning and evening kettles for a week and a £40 bottle will do full meals for 10-14 days.

All came from various camping shops so nothing weirdly specialist about them.

We have a trangia, it's great and packs down really small including all the pans.

Single burner with gas cartridge is the way to go for two of you. I've used it for kettle and meals no bother. Just do one-pot/pan meals and then put the kettle on after so you can have your tea after.

A Trangia is very versatile. We have got too many options tbh but a Trangia is my favourite by far. We have started to leave our campingaz stove at home and rely entirely on our Trangia and Heat pal (which is just a massive Trangia but can be used as a heater).

You do need a fuel bottle for your meths but all in all they are very space saving/easy.

If you do go for a Trangia meths is much cheaper in a chandlery or decorating shop than anywhere else - we pay £10 for ultras.

I've got a 2 burner stove and full bottle of gas if you live near me. (Berkshire).

It packs down small and will work off either big bottles of gas or the little disposable ones, depending on what attachment you buy. You can use it as a stove, bbq, griddle or hotplate. With the lid on it even acts as a mini oven - we cook pizzas on ours. It'll easily be big enough for the 2 of you. We got ours in Go Outdoors if there's one near you?

It's very good and easy for the two of us, not too bulky.

If its just the two of you then the little gas burner or trangia would be fine. The trangia has the advantage of including pans and being a bit more resistant to wind...
