A very stupid question about camping stoves.

The small gas type. We always use ours outside as I assume it is a fire/carbon monoxide risk inside the tent. I have never ever seen anyone else cooking on a campsite except a bbq. Do they all use them inside the tents or just eat salad for a week? Where do you use yours please?

Always cook outside the tent, and even once turned off it stays in the porch part, or gets wet under the car etc.

I know some people who say it's fine and safe, but people have been known to die of carbon monoxide poisoning and I don't think it's worn the risk, especially as it's perfectly do-able outside.

Always outside. Risk of: carbon monoxide poisoning; tipping it over & setting fire to the tent with you & all your stuff inside; possibly melting a patch on the roof of your tent (depends on stove & tent size).

And if you don't have a car, put it outside, on a stone when you've finished cooking, and cover with an upturned pan to keep the rain off.

I've only ever done it outside. A lot of people go out for dinner on campsites or just eat cold stuff/bbq. I love my little camping stove. It makes me feel all English somehow.

I never cook inside the tent because of the danger of fire.
Didn't occur to me that a camping stove would cause a CO issue though?People cook on little stoves in caravans and camper vans and narrow boats, and with big stoves in their houses and don't get CO poisoning. Confused

Do people cook inside with the doors zipped up?

Why cant you bring a stove in when it is not being used? When the tap on the gas bottle is turned off, all burners off?

BikeRunSki · 17/05/2015 22:58

Always outside!!!

Carbon monoxide deaths in tents are still too common from cooking inside.

BikeRunSki · 17/05/2015 23:01

This should explain things blu.

expatinscotland · 17/05/2015 23:08

Outside only. We car camp and have a people carrier so if it's really bad, cook in the boot with the door up.

Pointlessfan · 18/05/2015 06:47

Aha so I am right then! Using the car boot if it's raining is a good idea. Thank you for all your replies.
