Possibly on a farm? That accepts dogs? And has nice bathroom facilities? And isn't crazy money?

If anyone could tell me the secret of turning water into wine while we're at it that would be pretty ace too. Wink

Hoping to take ourselves off camping at the start of July - just before the majority of schools break up. Any recommendations for lovely campsites gratefully received! Plus top tips for camping with a little one, this will be DD's first time in a tent (she'll be jusr over 13 months).

Many thanks oh wise mumsnettters!

I take Gold DofE groups up to the Lake District - we base ourselves in Ambleside (at the head of Lake Windermere). It's a beautiful area. We like Great Langdale campsite - a National Trust site which is rural and peaceful but with a couple of decent pubs nearby for food and a shop on site. Good bathrooms too, and a children's playground. We also use this site - Rydall Hall which has lovely facilities including a cafe on site. It's between Ambleside and Grasmere - Grasmere is lovely.

Both accept dogs.

Keswick is also rather nice.

There's a nice site just near to St. Johns in The Vale. I'm sorry, don't recall the name.

Just make sure you take plenty of warm stuff for the little one - even in summer, it can get very very cold at night!

The campsite in St Johns looks great, thanks norn. Off to look at some maps and see if it's in the right sort of area.

Am thinking lots of layers for dd, and additional blankets so we can bundle her right up if the temperature drops too far.

Try waterside farm campsite on Ullswater. Lovely. Or quietside campsite near Ullswater too.

Also castle rigg hall Keswick. We love going there. Stunning views and facilities.

Another vote for the quiet site - we went last year when DS was 11 months old -was ace! It does accept dogs and there are great views over the lakes. They also do glamping cabins that looked really comfy if you are worried about the cold.

You're welcome Boss... The Lakes is one of my favourite places int he world (I travel a LOT for work)... I keep going back. I'm sure there are dozens and dozens you could pick!!!

I am lucky to live in the Lake District and we stay local a lot as it's handy and has lots to do.
Have a great holiday.

The Wheatsheaf pub at Lorton. It's a small, lovely, friendly site and there's even a nice pub on site to boot :)

It's in the NW part of the Lakes, so is a bit more off the beaten track than many other places. But close to Keswick, Cockermouth etc.

When our kids were that age we would stay in a pod, mainly to minimise early morning wakings and disturbing other campers. Quiet site does them as does Castlerigg. Both are lovely sites.

Another vote for the waterside farm campsite on Ullswater - absolutely stunning, very quiet & lovely facilities!

Park foot site by pooley bridge. You can walk along the lake to town and have dinner in a pub with a garden.
