Lake district sites with campfires

Might have an impromptu trip up north and looking for a site. So far I have found the following sites I like that allow campfires:

Moss Howe Farm
Grizedale camping
Lane Foot farm
Fisherground

Does anyone have any hidden gems they want to share?

I have only been to Fisherground and it's not a site I'd hurry back to...

It does depend on when you go- we went Jubilee BH but the site was too overcrowded. Only about 4 showers and loos for ladies- woefully inadequate and there was often queues for the loo, showers and the pot wash. We also were near to a very loud family who had drunken rows at 2am in the morning- this happened for 2 nights before they were finally asked to leave on the 3rd day so they are not as strict as they think they are. We were given very little choice of pitch (thankfully we had a great one on the perimeter) and you're told which way round to put your tent etc.

But- it did have a nice view and the kids liked the little lake and playground.

That's interesting Prof - on paper it looks like the perfect site for us but you're right about it depending when one visits. It would be in May half term hols but not the bank Holiday.

This is a pic of about 1/6th of the site. Digging through for the photos we did have a good holiday there but they way need more facilities.

Lake district sites with campfires

We've stayed at a lovely little site called Baystone Bank farm. It's south west Lake District so away from the tourist traps of Ambleside Grassmere etc but close to lots of great walking. There's no play area but my kids spent hours happily playing in the little stream that runs through the site. V reasonable ££ too

We have been to Grizedale Farm a few times. It is a great site if you don't mind rather basic facilities. If I remember correctly they only have a few EHU's although if your anything like my lot roughing it with a head torch and camp fire is the only way to do camping. There is a local pub within walking distance which is always a great relief come 8pm or if the thought of camp cooking fills you with dread. Plenty to do within the local area including Go Ape, cycle tracks etc.

We have also been to Lanefoot Farm although that was a number of years ago. Long before they had yurts etc so not sure how much has changed on site. I do remember being rather impressed by the slate floor toilets (considering I'm used to the more rustic approach) they also had a great little play area for the kids with trampoline, Wendy house etc and the much needed pub within walking distance Grin

Since we are in Scotland and midge season is fast approaching we will be heading down towards the Lakes for our summer trips. Maybe even during the May Bank Holiday, weather permitting.
