Southern France help!

We are going on a family camping holiday to France in June. We are heading for the south coast but we don't know France at all so we are struggling to find somewhere suitable to stay!

We want a campsite within walking distance to a town and a beach and on a cycle path too.
Must have things on the campsite to entertain our DDs (age 4 and 6), a pool is essential, a bar/restaurant/cafe would be good too.

We don't have a budget really so any price is ok, and would rather pay more for a better quality site.

Whilst there we want to visit Nice, St Tropez and surrounding towns so being near the coastal bus route would be quite important. We don't want to drive anywhere at all but are happy to walk/cycle/use public transport.

Can anyone suggest or recommend a campsite from experience? Or even an area to look at? Any suggestions would be appreciated.

We stayed here: www.yellohvillage-les-tournels.com/fr/ last year in June and it was lovely. It is near to St Tropez, although I don't know about a bus route as we drove. It is great for children though and has a lovely pool and slides and a restaurant and pool bar.

Better website here: www.tournels.com/en/

That campsite looks lovely Frozen! It has some negative tripadvisor reviews - did you notice any negatives when you stayed there? (And blimey it's not cheap is it!)

Love the look of that campsite poor! And Port Grimaud looks lovely. Have you stayed there? Did you notice any children around the area? It looks very 'grown up' which is perfect for me and DH but wondering if there is much for children in the area, if the restaurants are welcoming to children etc (although the campsite itself looks great for the DC).

Yep we stayed there with our 3 2 years on the trot. Kids were 2/3 year old twins and 6/7 eldest during visits.
Yes very welcoming of kids however I will say that we were there during the school holidays so the place was rammed.
I really like it there and rate it as a good site.

Its not cheap no - would have been about 500 odd euro in June for us last year (we had some Yelloh loyalty points though which brought the price down significantly but that was just luck - we stayed in their Le Brasilia site the previous year.)

I am not sure about negatives. The kids' entertainment was a bit hit and miss but it is never great before the school holidays in my experience - it seemed to be gearing up a bit as we left. DD made a couple of friends though so she didn't really care. Noise did drift up a bit from the entertainment at night but it didn't cause us any problems. We got allocated a pitch with very little shade but they let us choose another we liked when we got there and were totally relaxed with doing that. It was quite hilly so you wouldn't want to have mobility issues but you could ask for a pitch closer to the facilities and have less of a walk.

We loved it and DD adored the pool and slides.

That said, I think if you are planning to use public transport, the one poorbuthappy linked to does look like it might be better located and closer to St Tropez and Nice.

Nothing is cheap down there.

It's not really in the part of southern France that you were after and not near the beach, but how about here ? It's near a little town called Sommieres, which is really beautiful. We haven't stayed at the site, but went to look at it last year with a view to maybe going one year. It has a cycle path that goes directly past the campsite - one direction goes to Sommieres (a bit over a km, easily walkable) and the other goes to Nimes. It has what you want in terms of pool, restaurant, bar etc. There's a river nearby and Go Ape thing as well, so lots to do. The site is also in a vineyard, which is another plus. It was a quiet site too - I think they do have evening entertainment, but fairly low-key.

have you thought about languedoc Roussillon instead of Côte d'azur. Somewhere like criques de porteils in coullioure

We have stayed in two Yelloh Villages, me, my daughter and children.

This was the last one we did.

We stay in the Chalets because Im a bit like that but the campsite looked so great I would gladly camp the next time.
