Any rivals for the Outwell Montana 6P?

In the market for a new tent. We made the sad decision to sell our VW campervan at the end of the summer as we couldn't face any more trips on the back of a tow truck (epic journey from Dorset to Norfolk in the middle of the night with a 2 yo was the final straw), and saved some pennies from the sale to treat ourselves to new gear. So, Outwell Montana seems the most sensible option as nobody seems to have a bad word to say about it, but the 2015 version is grey, which DP is dubious about showing dirt. I like the Vabgo Azure 500 which is cheaper, but can find very few reviews of it. Any thing else I should consider?

That is for reading this in the midst of the murk of February!

Does it matter if it shows dirt?

He's a bit of a stickler for insisting on keeping camping stuff clean. It's a pain in the arse tbh.

" It takes us about 2 1/2-3 hours to set up with 2 people."
are you sure it's suitable for a family with a small child?

OurDayWillCome · 15/02/2015 15:03

Is that a quote for the Montana antimatter? Most of the ones I read said around an hour.

I saw it here www.campingworld.co.uk/en/gb/Outwell-Montana-6P-Tent-2015-Premium-Collection/m-15180.aspx

even 1 hour is too long!

Hmmm. We really want something with steel poles as tried a short trip at the end of the summer in our old, but quick to put up, flexipole tent, and it collapsed due to the wind half way through the night!

Eve got an outwell xp plus extension, really quick to,set up good, quality and warm.
We use the extension for cooking and eating . The only draw back is no spare bedroom to,toss our bags into but we dint find it too bad.

Ours takes the two of us about 45 mind max to set up including all pegging, ropes and sorting out the inside (SIMs/travel cot).

We have used it with our 2yr old and 6m old last summer and it was great. We liked that it is all sealed so no drafts and that we can turn the two bedrooms into one big bedroom. Then we can fit a ready bed, two SIMs, a proper travel cot and a chair for easy night feeds.

Oh also, although it is big it comes in two bags which helps us pack it around the pushchair.

Our friends use theirs to camp with 3 dcs all under 4. It's a really good family tent.

Can really recommend outwell motana 6p, we bought one second hand off ebay and added extension and the black/silver roof thing, its a fab tent, takes us about 30 mins to get up, then dh does the roof/ropes/pegs while i get on whith the inside stuff. But do watch the outwell video on youtube on how to put the tent up and follow it to the letter!!

Really love our outwell whitecove 6. Massive living space. Not steel poles but very secure.husband pitches in about 30 mins alone, me about an hour

We love our arkansas 5. Straight door at the front under a porch area meaning no rain gets in when you open the door. The porch is big enough for our table and chairs, cooking gear and shoe box. It also has 2 hanging rails.

Steel poles. DH and I can put it up in half an hour; I have done it on my own in 45mins. When we went away last year it took us one hour from arrival to have the tent up and inside done.

Love love love the tent. We found the side door/porch on the Montana to be too small for us. We like our tent for the fact we can all stand in the porch taking coats/boots off when it rains and leave the coats outside so the inside of the tent doesn't get wet.
