Hi, we're planning our second camping trip to.France this summer with dc aged 5 and 7 and would love some recommendations.

We'd like a great campsite with good pools anythings for dc to do. Ideally in an area that is hot but not baking.

We went to the vendee last year and the weather was bad in July and the area a bit bland. We also went to dordogne which we preferred
.

Would be very grateful for area and campsite recommendations.

Thank you

Not the Pyrenees, Alpes or Jura but equally beautiful, take a look at Camping L'Hirondelle in Chatillon-en-Dios. The pitches facing the mountains (the 'champs' pitches) are huge with stunning views of the Vercours mountains. The pool complex is good and the entertainment low key with a daily kids club and a singer/band a couple of times a week. On the way home we deviated via the Jura and stayed at Camping Beauregard. Friendly site with the best indoor pool I've come across on a campsite and a cosy restaurant for fondue and vin jaune. Unfortunately the weather there (13 degrees and drizzle, in August) has somewhat put me off the Jura as a summer holiday destination! We liked lying in the tent and listening to the cowbells though.

Thanks cheerup, I'll have a look at your first option....am glad you mentioned the jura weather. According to my guidebook the jura is meant to be 25 in august!!

The Pyrenees are lovely. Camping Le Montagnou has lovely shady pitches, a pool and, at back of the site, a small ice cold mountain river you can swim or paddle in - very cooling on a hot day. More or less due south of Toulouse.

The area is beautiful, the people who run the site are lovely (little shop, fresh bread etc). If your DC are decent walkers there is a fair bit to do, but also some castles etc in the area, as well as various caves with Neolithic art (if your DC are brave and not afraid of the dark!)

Try eurocamp domaine de chalain

How about Annecy? Loads to do and some great campsites.

We loved Annecy when we went last year, in fact we are going back this year! It was very hot last year. We hired bikes and had some lovely rides as well as getting the bus round the lake.

Perhaps too pricey since the exchange rate malarkey but there are loads of gorgeous campsites on lake geneva ( Swiss side). Typically lake access for swimming, kayaking. I like rolle and morges. ( Morges has a pool nearby) Easy (walkable) train access to geneva and Lausanne for wet days. Weather usually dry, warm/ hot as protected by alps on one side Jura on the other. Mountains from 20 min drive away.
