To buy or to wait?

I've given up trying to convince DH we want a bell tent so I've been looking at regular tents and found one I rather like- the Outwell Glendale 5. Seems a good size for the 4 of us and the porch with removeable groundsheet looks good. I've found it for £399 online (2014 model) vs £649rrp.

Is that price likely to stay low or get lower? Are there likely to be loads of new tent models out next year with early season discounts? I don't want to miss out on what looks like a great tent at a great price but I also don't want a tent to sit unused all winter then I find a better one next year at a good price.

Why is it so hard to make decisions?! Grin

What about camping equipment too? Buy now or wait?

Bumping as I'm interested too Smile

Seems like a good price..advice from me, we are a family of 3 and have a 7 man tent, the outwell Vermont XLP.
I would always go at least a couple of persons over as this then gives you storage room for clothes etc, you will find a 5 man won't give you much space for rainy days.
You can get a Vermont lp for about £600 if you shop around.
We tend to go on weekends and for as long as two weeks and have every bit of kit we can in an estate with roof box and trailer plus bikes on too!!
I know a family of four that have a five man tent and they really regret not getting something bigger, so for next yr will get an event shelter to use as their communal space, saying that, we still have the event shelter too for the evenings, sun shade and when it's raining.

Outwell are very good as it happens but Vango and Kampa do excellent tents, the Kampa Croyde 6 is a fave of ours but just wasn't big enough with the glamping kit we have.
The outwell Montana 5p with extension is highly rated, plus the vango Maritsa and outwell wolf lake.

Good luck!

At the moment the plan is that camping would be for just a few days at a time, we're not planning to go for a week. The Glendale seems to have a lot of living space for a five man, more than a lot of 6 man +. I hope it would be enough.

We have an estate car, but it's not a huge one, and a roof box and we struggled to get it all in for a camping trip with our smaller tent and not much stuff! I think we just need a bit more practice at it! The Glendale doesn't look like it packs too big.

My friend has a Kampa Croyde and loves it.

I think it seems a good bargain too.

I think the living space is the key tbh. We have a four man and a six man both with large living areas. We camp in the 4 man quite often for 2 weeks no probs. It does have a porch too though.. That makes it easier. We quite often take that tent instead of the 6 man because the 6 man is just so large and cumbersome and it's only real advantage is bigger bedrooms. We are a family of 4 including one big 17 year old.

EarSlaps · 24/09/2014 21:33

Yes, I think the porch is good for keeping stuff.

A lot of the higher berth tents just want to squeeze as many people in as possible to say they are X berth. A lot of 6 man tents have 3 120cm rooms, surely they would be really poky? We don't have a big enough car to take too much crap anyway.

We might need to upgrade as the boys get bigger but they are 2 and 5 now, so we will need a new tent before they are huge teens anyway if we end up camping a bit.

Now I just have to figure out how to transfer the cash from my savings account.

I've ordered it! Quite excited now. We'll have a play before we put it away for next year. I think our garden is too small to pitch so we'll have to use the green in front of our house, no doubt our efforts will amuse the neighbours. Smile

Hi. We like the look of the glendale 5. Can I ask where you got it from? It sounds a great price!

kemurf · 28/09/2014 18:04

Have a look at the reviews on UKCampsite - lots of tent recommendations. I think now is a good time as they are shifting 2014 stock. I like the Dutch tents. Am about to take out a mortgage on a Karsten Tent. Fell in love with Dutch-made tents this summer...

I think now is a good time if year to pick up some bargains....I really want an electric cool box and a porch for our Gelert 10 man! Weeeeeeeee!

EarSlaps · 28/09/2014 20:13

We got it here leemur. All the cheaper places were selling the 2013 model but these guys had the 2014 model for not much more.

I think it will be great for our first family tent.

We love our electric cool box tatty, just need an ehu cable now to connect it up Grin. Not found any great offers on those so I'll leave it a bit, but I love the look of the outwell one with a nightlight and USB sockets for iPhones etc.

EarSlaps Thanks for the link. I actually managed to find it earlier and ordered one too! It's very exciting but I don't reckon we'll get it out until next year which is disappointing!

EarSlaps · 28/09/2014 21:40

Excellent! You will of course have to put it up to check it's all ok Grin. Then tuck it lovingly into hibernation for the winter.

Unfortunately I just got an email saying my money for the tent was being refunded as they sold out over the weekend. I've ordered it for not such a good price from somewhere else now. Hope your order is Ok EarSlaps!

EarSlaps · 29/09/2014 19:50

Oh no! Sorry. Mine says. It's been dispatched so fingers crossed all ok!
