Most comfortable sleeping arrangement?

I think I've finally got DH to come around to camping, he even (sort of) happily looked at tents with me at Go Outdoors (he point blank refuses a lovely bell tent so it will be a 'normal' tent).

Just need to find a comfortable sleeping solution now, he moaned about the bad back and lack of sleep on our trip. We had 5cm SIMs, sleeping bags and one pillow each. His sleeping bag was too short and thin and we know we'll need two pillows each next time. Don't want to spend a fortune either.

I was thinking of two XL 10cm SIMs (I hate air beds, and double SIMs are too narrow as we are used to a king size bed), maybe strapped together with a sheet over, then a rectangular fleece sleeping bag liner (we both hate mummy style bags), then a 15tog duvet. Should that keep us warm enough June to sept? I thought the liners should stop us getting cold if one hogs the covers a bit and less likely to fall off than just a blanket. Plus a duvet seems to take up less room than two XL sleeping bags.

Does anyone else happily camp with a duvet or is it sleeping bags all the way? I also have very fetching fleece pjs from Primark to keep me warm (can't bring myself to wear a onesie!).

Depending on the budget I think the absolute winner in comfort is the 10cm Megamat. There have been a few threads recently which have featured SIMs. They are about £150 each but I believe you can strap them together too

Wow they look great but ouch! Two of those would cost more than our home mattress! Maybe save it for if we camp a lot.

The outwell dreamboat looks similar but slightly cheaper, will look out for deals.

I actually have the Outwell dreamcatcher which I think is similar to the dreamboat. Only thing to bear in mind is that the 10cm mattresses are not very compact when rolled, so if storage or boot space is an issue that can be a problem. I have the 7cm and I find it really comfy but I'm quite small and light

We have the 10cm sims, Exped I think, and they are AMAZEBALLS. Really really comfy! Two of those and a quilt and we were toasty.

Argh, you lot aren't helping me not spend all my savings on camping stuff! The outwell actually seemed to pack smaller than our 5cm mats strangely. Might just get a good one (I'll keep an eye out for deals) for DH then I'll have the old ones stacked. Needs to be a good one as the cheaper ones are all too narrow or too short.

I think he'd sleep better with a duvet than sleeping bags. If I can get him sleeping better I think he'll want to camp more. Though to my amazement he has suggested a few nights in the Lake District next year (neither of us have ever been).

We have the 10cm exped megamat too, best camping sleep ever, even on my side. Well worth the cash IMHO, seems a bit steep but reading reviews people use them for years which makes it an investment!

I got a cheap foam mattress topper from Argos which we used on top of sim. And cheap blankets from ikea. Don't forget a wooly hat can make a huge difference and socks too. You could always perfect arrangement by sleeping in lounge/ on floor at home? This would sort out whether there was enough thickness.
Also get a hip flask for the ultimate bed softner :)

2 alpkit dozers side by side with an ikea fleece blanket on top then a fitted sheet.

Sleep under a 15 tog duvet.

Camped loads this summer and only needed pj bottoms and a vest top. Was very toasty and very comfortable.

Baileys in our hot chocolate also helped

Well I got the outwell dreamboat mats. Together they make up a kingsize bed. Nice to roll over and not fall off. Planning to use those with a fleece blanket and fitted sheets, or get flannelette sheets. Plus a thick duvet.

Agree that the alcohol helps with getting warm (but makes me need middle of the night loo trips that cool me down!).
