Campervans and kids

Hi all, we are thinking of getting a campervan and wondered where the baby will sleep? He's 3months and just about to out grow his moses basket, and we were just wondering what he should sleep in in the van? We haven't bought a van yet, but we're looking at VW's, so not loads of space.

Any experienced campervanners with babies on here can shed any light?

Thanks

Hi we have a t25 high top and both our dc (5 and 7 months) sleep upstairs (one at the front over the cab and one at the back over the rock and roll bed) with a flap we made to stop any falling out.

There are lots of variations though - you can get hammocks that slot over the front seats and one we saw once had a hammock for a child over your feet. I know some people go for a pop up style cot that sits on the floor but we haven't got that much room in our layout to accommodate that.

We had a pop top van when the kids were small. DD slept zipped in a Samsonite pop up bubble cot on the double bed downstairs with me while hubby and DS slept upstairs. It was a tiny bit of a squeeze :)
Seat belts were more of an issue. Rear seats only had lap straps which was ok when they were in full car seats but no good once they needed booster seats. The position of the seats meant we couldn't convert to 3 pointers.
Sad to say we have a touring caravan now....we're quitters!!

We have a more unusual high top I should add which gives us more space to do that!!

Ours only had seat belts in the front so when Ds2 came along we had three points ones welded in in the back - we've got old beetle seat belts which were quite long but still need an extender belt (seven quid from just kampers) to fit the rear facing chair.

We have a VW bay and baby sleeps in a hammock that fits across the front in the cab area. My mum made me a fabric panel that ties on to the hammock under the sheet and is rigged up to the pop-top opening to stop her falling out. Dd1 sleeps in the single hammock in the pop-top. When dd2 was smaller she slept in a hard carry-cot which we placed on the buddy seat. She never climbed out.
