That is absolutely bloody IT, I give up on camping

Bar one trip this year the weather has created havoc.

Drove 6 hrs to Cornwall and it bucketed it down, kids bored, everything wet, miserable treks to the loo everything damp. Gave up last night abandoned tent and DP hired a mobile home at a nearby park.

Went back this morning, tent under bloody 2 inches of water, stood in the pouring rain packing up, dumped tent in the bins on the way out. Now stick in hellish A303 traffic with 3 bored kids and a truck full of clothes that need washing and drying.

Don't give up on camping, just maybe consider going abroad for your main holiday. (Sorry UK campsite owners, I know that's not helpful to you.)

We always take our main camping holiday in the south of France now. This year we could only take a week so took a chance on Cornwall. I didn't look forward to it like I usually do, I was too anxious about the weather.

Fortunately it wasn't too bad when we were there and we had a nice time. We were in a campervan this time though, not a tent so we were warm and out of the wind. I feel very sorry for you and all the others who were there this weekend.

I don't think there is another way. If you want to guarantee there's a pitch for you in peak season you have to prebook. Campsites are entitled not to give refunds because they have to make a living so after you've paid £100+ in site fees you can't readily decide to bail if the forecast looks iffy but what's the point in freezing your arse off and getting drenched?

We don't camp but we do youth hostel, you get the beautiful coastal/ rural places that you do with camping but a dry roof over your head, a kitchen, dining room and communal area! Some youth hostels do have camping and if you camp there and it rains you at least can spend all evening in the dry and just sleep in the tent.
